Wow, I wish I lived near you, I'd take you out for a humiliating! A lot of people who havent tried it talk like you, I did, thats how I ended up being tricked into giving it a go, and you know what, its really really hard. You talk about grouping? there is no grouping as we would understand it. The top guys and gals will put 20 rounds through ONE BULLET HOLE!!! It'll just look enlarged. How big do you think the arse of your last .22lr looks through a pinhole site at 50yrds? lets put it this way, you cant see it.
They dont drink tea or coffee in match weeks cause it elevates their resting heart rate slightly, changing the way the barrel flicks. They have set clothes they always wear to shoot in cause the difference in thickness from one teeshirt to the next is enough to bump a shot into the 9 point ring. The minutest difference in firing position is enough to throw a highscoring card into a crap card, elbow not perfectly under the barrel, body not alighned to the center of the range, left foot up too high/not high enough and the list goes on and on, and thats not even getting in to setting up the rifle. My mates has 64 points of adjustment! I never needed a sling to shoot before and laughed when they said I'd need one, after all its only 50 yrds...
The fact that there are hordes of poor shooters out there doesnt change what is or isnt good shooting. we're not grading on a curve. As for Olympic grade shooters, yes they are amazing shooters. There is a huge difference between what they do and the earlier claim of hitting the dot on a pepsi can. I know and have worked with quite a few snipers and world class marksmen and dont even pretend to be as qualified as they are. I have the utmost respect for them and never have I felt humiliated by their shooting skills so I doubt you would humiliate me as you so offer. "Keyholing " targets and hitting the dot are two different accomplishments.
Try and think of it in terms of another skill, like driving. I consider myself a good driver, but those NASCAR guys are in a whole different world. The swarms of lousy drivers out there doesnt change the standard for those professionals nor does it make me any better or worse.
There are plenty of shooters here. I say we all go get pepsi cans or equivalent targets and conduct a survey. I'll be going to the range next week to BZO my M-4. I'll let you all know how it goes.

I know that....
For me youre speaking to the choir. Just relaying the obvious that there really are not many trained in proper technique applying to even the most fundamental aspects of shooting be it precision or practical.
