Africans are rewarding fish to keep. There are so many nice and interesting species to choose from.Although my all time favorite is from Malawi I was mostly into the Tanganyikans.

Yeah?? Years and years ago I made a halfhearted attempt with them. Didn't do any research, just assumed all africans would be ok together. Didn't work out to well, but I've always admired their color.

Someone in "general" mentioned a Fulu, or Christmas something or other, that is a beautiful fish I'd like to keep.

Yes,beautiful colors....some shops here used to set up display tanks with fake coral and try to pass off African cichlids as a freshwater alternative to saltwater fish.

Christmas fulu....never kept one but I think they are from Lake Victoria.

Lol, yes, I've seen that, not really into that, but I do like a nice rockscape, I see africans kept in those pretty often.

Yeah, the rocky caves are usually the best decor for them.

So taker got himself banned ????? That's gotta be the hogan thread , what was that all about ? I think he's had one to many piledrivers

Where is everyone?? Well I know where one of us is, ...resting in peace...

Lol, as long as I'm working with 100 gallon tanks, not even big cichlids interest me right now. Once I'm in a place I can do some serious upgrading maybe. Actually I think I may take a serious stab at Africans.

I tried the African route mate set up a 4x2x2 filled it with nice river boulders , stocked it with all sorts , got them all settled and breeding like rabbits , the tank looked great everyone commented on it as it was in our living room
Then I got bored of looking at pretty fish , sold the lot and put my breeding pair of jags in the tank :D lesson learned the Africans were nice but I can't get away from the monsters lol
I did like the calvas cichlids though tbh I would probably stock those again as a species tank and get a little group of those

holy crap. looked up pics of those, and they are really colorful. article says there can be a big difference in between how males turn out though.
wonder why I haven't seen them on vendors' lists though? wetspot usually has a fair amount of varieties.
not that I want to go african. but those are cool.
