Can someone tell me what 'Snowflake' means?

I searched google and it refers to people back during the civil war that supported slavery.

I've seen it recently attacking both liberals and conservatives... so I'm a little confused.

It's almost people that are hurt or offended easily. also known like a "special snowflake'

Google definition of special snowflake: a person with supposedly unique characteristics or attributes that entitle them to privileged treatment or particular consideration.

In current times it is used to describe liberals and left leaning folks...oftentimes derogatorily.I have never heard of the slavery connection or of conservatives being labeled with the term.

Funny, I googled snowflake again and the search looks different. It shows generation snowflake which says the same as what you posted

I see the snowflake thing a lot on 9gag :)

fox, in particularly Todd Starnes has been using to describe overly sensitive liberals.

The only racial context for snowflake I've seen/heard was in the movie Glory. It was what the other black soldiers called the educated, northern black soldier that had volunteered. From that context, I would have thought it was used for black people that were trying to be "white."

I have heard "special snowflake" often though, usually in that kind of southern "Bless her heart" type of way, but haven't heard it shortened to just snowflake before.

Well, the day is almost over so I'd better get this one in.
