On another topic (just trying to offer some suggestions) One of your mods a page or two back mentioned they had seen a report on a thread awhile back, but they couldn't do anything about it since the section was not one they mod.
Hello; back when a teacher in middle school for some years we had a morning and afternoon recess. A few minutes for kids to run around and burn off some energy. Common thing recess I imagine. Anyway sometimes some problem would start up. Maybe a fight even. I would punish the fighters. I now wonder how it would have gone if I told the entire class that they all will lose recess because those two students had a fight??My point though is why basically punish everyone just because of a few problem people. That happens why too much in society these days. If there's a thread where someone says something wrong/causes the thread to steer in a bad direction, then delete that comment and send them a message. Locking the thread for everyone just seems to be a tad heavy handed IMO that's all I'm saying.
Well I will never know because it never occurred to me to punish an entire class for the actions of a few. Guess I missed a tactic. I am both old and old school. I still favor going after the guilty and leaving the innocent alone.
The fact that everyone seems to think I'm personally attacking them is quite confusing.
I think everyone agrees to punish the guilty. What we are getting at is it seems the innocent are being punished as well. Such as closing the lounge. 98% of the lounge people get along with no issues. it's those 2% that just drop in to cause problems but don't hang out in the lounge.I agree.
How can I fairly punish the guilty when the rules are neither understood nor enforced? If I let everyone know what's expected, and give a grace period first, is this somehow unfair to you all?
The point I'm making is that I'm going to lay out the rules, give a grace period and then issue punitive action to violators. The fact that everyone seems to think I'm personally attacking them is quite confusing.
