That happens often. when owners see that someone else really appreciates what their animal is, and want him very much, they back out.
He will probably end up at a EBD rescue. I doubt they are knowledgeable or disciplined enough to change a behavior that their home dynamics produced.
So sorry, Inglor. you would give him a great life! :-[

Check out some private rescues. they don't jack people around like that.
If you aren't set on getting a purebreed, search Petfinder for the breeds you like, and they will show up dogs that are mixed with that (or seem to be) also. many of the dogs on there are at private rescues, not county shelters. the listing shows where they're at, and they have their own website links.
There are also sometimes "courtesy listings" by rescues, of dogs whose owners need help in rehoming.

They had told me that they had already looked at rescue groups to give him too, I'll be watching them to see if he shows up in any of them. If he does I'll have a few not so nice things to say to them. I kinda feel bad for thinking this, but since they were getting rid of him for nipping at their daughter part of me wants him to do it again so I can hopefully get him. Since I don't have kids him not getting along with them would be a non-issue. But mostly I'm kicking myself for just not taking him home with me last night, but I didn't want his first day to be spent all alone in his crate.

go back & read my edited reply.
Lol. I hate to say it, but he'll probably do that.
Even if that's a non-issue at your home, I would get a pro consultation & work on it. unexpected encounters can occur, & who knows what your future holds- even with extended family & friends. It's a huge liability nowadays. plus it's just fun to freely socialize with your dog [sometimes].
but, because of his owners, I'd start looking elsewhere.

I have already been looking at some of the breed specific rescues in the region so I might just go back to that plan. I was able to get a pretty good feel for how they were training him and I'm pretty sure the problem is that he has been allowed to become the dominant one in the house, something I wouldn't allow. I've owned a number of rescues before who came from bad situations so I'm familiar with what it can take to rehab them into being a proper pet. I also think they were training him for show because some of their complaints were that he wouldn't stay sitting for over 10 minutes after being told to. I'm still hoping that I'll get a call saying that I can have him, but i'm not going to plan on it.
