I keep hearing shelter dogs are different, obviously trauma changes things. What are things to look for?

Spend time with the dog. That's the key to success, ask if you can take it for a walk (with a volunteer ofc) etc. You'll find out a lot about the dog! ;)

not 100% reliable. people also really need to compare any available individuals with "the breed" they think they like, because they will vary so much.

Of course. Also, if you're gonna get one from a breeder, might as well check out the parents (at least the mum).

See and spend time with both parents if you goto a breeder. If I'm going to a breeder I wanna see and meet both parents I wanna see health test for illness specific to the breed and common amongst dogs. And I wanna see why the people breed dogs. I ask a lot of questions lol

How did your dog search ever pan out granny? I remember a boxer that didn't work out, what happened after that?

I am waiting for the right dog ;-) have to be careful w/grandson here weekly and tiny dog still here. so any adult must have proven special qualities. didn't feel 100% good about the gamble.
I have several feelers out. had a line on nice pup from breeder, then the husband told wife she could keep her! Grrrrrr.
after that I sulled up.

I see. Too bad missing the breeder pup:(
Some things I keep in mind are my nephews who come by often. 3-8, also hope to have a kid if my own soon.

if you don't want to raise a pup yourself, then wait for a dog who lived with kids and owner relinquished because of hardship/circumstances. that happens to perfectly well behaved & loved dogs.
that's how we got our last big girl. best dog of our lives, and we've had some really good ones before.
She had it all- gentle with the weak, very playful, fun-loving & humorous but turned her energy off or on at will, trustworthy in house alone, could be a scary watchdog but only barked when needed, FULL of personality.
It's gonna be a hard act to follow, unfortunately.
She made almost every other dog just seem slow in the brain by comparison :-/

Tonight is hell, the hood that vents the kitchen I work alone in broke so I had to deal with the busiest night of the week in 120 Fahrenheit heat.... And the reason it was broke was the circuit, the same circuit has the lights for the kitchen on it. So on top of it being obnoxiously hot, it was dark. And I do everything, cooking cleaning waiting etc.. Cannot wait to get out

"The largest cache of gold treasure thought to ever be unearthed in North America is on display this weekend at a Nevada antique show, providing the public with a rare opportunity to see the nearly perfectly preserved coins in person before they are sold later this month.

Called the Saddle Ridge hoard, the roughly 1,400 U.S. gold coins date from 1847 to 1894. They were found in nearly mint condition inside eight rusty cans by a couple taking a walk on their property in California's gold country in February.

The cache has a face value of more than $28,000 but could fetch more than $10 million when put up for sale near the end of the month, according to Kagin's Inc., the numistmatic firm that evaluated the find and is representing the unidentified couple who found it. At least 13 of the coins are the finest known of their kind, according to the firm..............................."

what a relief I won't have to pay taxes on anything like that ;-) Lol
