I overstocked a 55 today.
Why . . . Why . . . Why?
Why did I volunteer to be next week's pariah?
No, actually there's a good reason why.
They were living in
less than half the water.
With 1/3 the filtration!
They're gonna live now, but it was getting close to TPONR.

Hello; While I get what you are driving at it seems there is very little chance all will ever be on the same page. Some will never agree with others whether it be fish care, politics or many other things. This, in my opinion, should not be the goal. Having been a teacher I had to deal with folks who did not get along and who did not like each other and I include parents along with the students.
Early in my career the task was pretty straight forward. If two students went at each other I picked up my paddle and used it to convince them not to fight for a while. This also worked on the parents somewhat. Not that I paddled a parent but they knew if their kid kept being a bully or some such he/she would get licks, so they tended to cooperate with me. It was in some ways a more simple and effective time. Another note is that I did not have to use corporal punishment very often. It was known that I would and was done to a point where the point was gotten across.
I made the class and the school rules clear and only punished the guilty. I had to be even handed as well in that I punished my more favored students the same as the ones I did not much care for when guilty. The large number of students never had to worry about it. They were never going to be paddled and were not going to have to worry about a bully for very long. Let me be clear for those who may be jumping to conclusions, I am not suggesting the Mods use corporal punishment. I seldom took away from an entire class things like recess until late in my career and tried to only deal with the guilty.
Toward the end of my career most every effective method of dealing directly with only the guilty had been taken away. If I took a class on a field trip and a few did dangerous or foolish things I had no effective way to deal with it. Example; I would take classes to a planetarium. On one trip the planetarium staff told me they had seen three students putting chewing gum on the carpet and grinding it in with their feet. I had not a way to deal with this other than to stop tripe to the planetarium. My take is the mods here have effective measures to take but are self-limited for some reason. Of course I may be wrong in thinking the mods are free to use the ban and other powers as they may be under orders from above and may be in a pinch as I was late in my teaching career. My sympathies if so.
Let me use the event of this very thread being closed recently as an example. For a number of hours every one stopped posting as I did. Then someone posted making questionable remarks and got a few replies. (For what it is worth I PM'ed
Hendre
to clear things up.) Had I been a Mod and felt these folks where not doing things right I would have stopped their access to the site for a short time, not shut it down for everyone.
I have seen school principles try to use the make everyone pay approach too many times. I have had to sit in faculty meetings while we all were being chewed out for the actions of one or a few.
Anyway Ulu I do see what you are saying. I am not sure we are at a point of no return. I am making plans in case my presence here is no longer welcome. So far this is the only online forum I make regular use of. However It is not yet clear to me if I am considered a trouble maker by all the Mods. I just am having a hard time getting a read on it. I know I am vocal and do find myself in the midst of testy threads sometimes. Good point tho.
