It goes way beyond mere cost.
Studies have shown that rats fed on an exclusive diet of ATM receipts for a minimum of 4 generations show a 2% higher incidence of Restless Tail Syndrome. The constant twitching of the tail has been found in at least several instances to be the cause of domestic fires when the tail shorted out a poorly-formed electrical connection in certain specific brands of microwave hot dog poachers, resulting in explosive ignition of the hot dog. These fires have in some cases spread and caused significant property damage and loss of life. Authorities are considering banning ATM's, hot dogs, microwave ovens and, of course...rats.
Hello; wild video. A thing is black bears have been purposely reintroduced in my area. One was seen in a corn field about a half mile from my house not that long ago. A walking trail which borders that field had been freshly paved. The bear left clear muddy pawprints. That field also borders a middle school.
While bears are become more common in the last decades, they have been in the area for a long time.
I do not understand if attacks by bears & mountain lions are indeed becoming more common. May be like the way shark attacks sometimes get reported more but the number of incidences are not out of a common range.
Used to be I did not see bears or bear sign outside of the Smoky MT national park. Have seen a several there who were not aggressive. I have a suspicion as the population has been increased either naturally or by release programs that the bears are being forced into human areas. I have lived in this area since 1947 and have seen most wild areas reduced by human homes.
I have been doing a job in a basement and needed some lolly posts (jack posts). A fellow had two used ones for sale. I drove to his house on a high ridge overlooking Norris Lake in Claiborne county. I have known of folks developing such lands but was some surprised at how steep the house sites were when i got there. It was a dry spring day but i had to put my truck into 4WD to get up the driveway. This man and his wife were from up north.
That's in Russia, involving a Eurasian Brown Bear, another subspecies of Grizzly and completely different and distinct from Black Bears. Big and cranky, probably more likely to attack you but less likely to kill and eat you than a Black Bear.
Browns and Grizzlies (Ursus arctos) are the ones that usually leave you alone if you play dead; they attack if they sense a threat, and once the threat is neutralized they usually break off and leave. Blacks (Ursus americanus) are the ones whose attacks tend to be predatory; if you stop resisting or fighting back, they just get down to the business of eating you a bit earlier, while you're still alive.
I think the video shows a failed carjacking attempt by the bear.
