Hydroponics is a little different than putting some "in" a pond - but - you could give it a shot and report back!
Assuming it will get full sun - you could try putting some plants in a pot full of pebbles, and sinking that almost to the base of the plant - and see what happens.

That's exactly what I meant :)

Last year I did the same thing with a musa sp. Dwarf cavendish, this year I'm trying to find alternatives, the more the merrier ;)

Yeah, has to put up with it's roots being in water and a cold night or two though :)
By the way, you Run a plant nursery, right?

Yes; I do have a rare and unusual plant business - Almost exclusively mail order (but welcome visitors by appointment.)

What do you mean by "a cold night" ? Most plants can take a little chill for a night or two without too much damage.

Do you know what types of cold-hardy Palms are generally available in the plant Business? I have one T. Fortunei, others aren't available locally, and online I can't Filter through them all to find one that will handle a Winter. Although I have heard that none are hardier than Trachycarpus.

As for colder nights, where I live it can get pretty cold in a summer night, not freezing but just above sometimes

T.fortunei seems to be the most widely sold species here in this area as most of the HD stores seem to bring them in in the summer.
How big is your Trachycarpus...got a pic?

About 18" stem, leaves go to slightly over 2'. Will get a pic tomorrow, but it looks horrid since we had some very late snow and the leaves are all half brown. How is yours doing?

There are a few different cold hardy palms - including Trachycarpus, in about 10 different genera to choose from. I don't know enough about your particular climate / zone.
If you need help finding particular plants, feel free to PM me.

I have a guy who bought some plants from me last year, who has two palms that are surviving in his garden in zone 5b, which is just nuts. (Neither is a Trachy.)

Sadly mine died a year or so ago.I transferred it from my back yard to the yard in front of the house and it never recovered.
