Officially a Bichir keeper now

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm looking forward to those. Right now the sen and del spend time on opposite ends of the tank mostly. Going to have to pile a few more in there so I can get some of those.
Piles seem to be more common when the polys are older haha. My sens only get together to eat or nibble each other, otherwise all over haha. More polys doesn't hurt ;)

Yep. Now i just need to decide what cichlids i'll put with them. Was originally thinking a parrot with a few sajicas but now I'm thinking it may be easier on the bichirs if I did a group of guianacaras as they are typically a more peaceful cichlid than the centrals.

Yeah you might want to do something that wont attack a bichir, they dont defend for them selves like cichlids does, some people will recommend something like severum.

Any peaceful cichlid is a good idea. I keep mine with a synodontis, African knifefish and a snakeskin gourami. So just about anything that won't harass them is cool :)

Yeah Severums are a mixed bag for me. I've kept 3 over the years. 1 was just about the most peaceful fish I've ever kept. You couldn't ask for a better behaved fish. The other 2 have been jerks. I tried the one I have left with the bichirs first but after about 2 hours of watching them get harassed by him I moved him out and put the parrots in with him. I have 3 parrots now (very small...about 2-2.5 inches) and plan on only keeping 1 long term but still am kind of concerned they may grow to be too aggressive. Something like a guianacara SHOULD be more peaceful. I'll have them from a very young age too which may help.
