oh lord, another petsmart sucks thread.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The petsmart nearest to my place has someone that doesn't belong at a petsmart in charge of the fish section. Granted, that would be because he should be doing much more for aquatics with the knowledge that he has. Gotta love that Miles! :D

All of them are that way, it's because of the kids they hire, they don't know anything, and don't want to learn. The small mom and pop shop is still my choice.
That is a very close minded thing to say. I have been to several petsmarts that have great employees. Also, age doesn't really matter too much in this hobby, as the way fish were kept when I started the hobby, as compared to now, are completely different. Also, todays youth are bringing a new face to the hobby, several of our members are under 20 years, and know more than many private LFS.

after six years i had gotten out of the hobby when i was 17 b/c i didn't have time... and i was teling my older brother how to run his fish tank there are kids out there who are just as passoinate as you if not more. :D and the younger gen is whats going to be her when were gone so don't scaring them off :screwy: people

Yeah well, it doesn't really help complaining about a petstore in this way, even though it is a good way to blow off steam and hear what other people have to say. Rather phone their head office or something and tell them what happened. I have seen a few petstores where the employees don't know what they are doing, but at most places these guys are awesome. I just avoid the stores that upset me to save myself the frustration and support ones that I enjoy going to. It's pointless wasting your time and energy on something you have no control over.:nilly:

What do you expect from a chain store like PetSmart or Petco? They employ kids and other individuals who are cleaning aquariums for a living. Frankly, I don't know any serious aquariast who shops at either store, other than for an occasional bottle of dechlorinator. I certainly don't know any aquariast who would consult with these employees on matters regarding their fish. Do you discuss nuclear disarmament treaties with the check-out gal at Target? Lay off.

A better way to put it is, that petsmart is pretty good, it's just that sometimes their employees are "sucky".And when they are suck they reflect on their store which equals out to petsmart sucks. I still go, i just don't pay attention to the employees

The petsmart by me has a better selection than petco. It just petco has saltwater fish. The other day thet had mean looking grouper and some awesome ribbon eels. I am thinking of starting a SW tank soon

How very nice.
Levels of knowledge vary from employee to employee and from store to store. I've met some smart folk and some idiots at both. I know that some work at both the chains and the mom and pop stores simultaneously. My bottom line is, you can't judge a book by the cover, and if you're so wrapped up in these hot topics, look at all the fricken threads about it in the past. I'm so tired of seeing it here every other week - it's the same topic and the same people debating it with the same opinions.

IT IS OLD. No? :chillpill::yuck:

Oh, I forgot to add that I've seen quite a few petco employees visit this site. What does that say about Monster Fish??

Feel the love, folks :)
