have family near the thai-laos border, the Laos government is still slaughtering people who helped the US during the Vietnam war, don't think they care too much about wildlife
like what lp said, they're their children and grand children now, basically the story is that a few ethnic groups choose to fight for the American side in the Vietnam war, once the US withdrew and gave up, the communist Laos government had a silent holocaust going in Southeast Asia and it continues today mostly in a form of oppression. It might sound kind of morbid but it would seem as if the Laos rulers would have run out of people to kill by now.
fish also make a large part of the protein many fishing communities, so that's gonna be bad too if many fish are wiped outWow, if you would sacrifice an animal like that for air conditioning, even just one, you are whats wrong with America and Humanity in general. There are other ways to make electricity, hydro-electricity is just an easier way. If the ecological impact is too great, like this will be, and its not just one dam but a series going from thailand all the way to the southern laos border then it shouldnt be done and other means should be looked at. Not even just the ecological impact but the human impact is going to be worse for wear, sure the cities get more electricity but the locals around the dams get screwed. Fish make up a HUGE part of their diet and many would starve w/o them.

I agree with virtually EVERYTHING you say,,, but the one thing you don't take into account ,,they(Laos) DON'T care what the wwf or mfk or for that matter the US govt thinks is "right".. they are gonna get more electricity...pretty much bottom line ...and THEY don't have the money to worry about a bunch of dolphins,,,it SUCKS ,,but that's world political reality in a nutshellWow, if you would sacrifice an animal like that for air conditioning, even just one, you are whats wrong with America and Humanity in general.
