Okay if anyone here can answer this question on a serious note-please do... So... If we drill for oil-oil starts coming out- and we then put in this giant pump do hickey and get rich....well....call me crazy but couldn't they have just pushed another pump into this thing by now and just started sucking it out like normal operation?
I think it would take to much time at this point, my question is why didn't the engineers (in all of their brilliance) just put in a secondary shut off valve just in case the first on didn't work?

Its not really that easy, because you are talking about 5000+ psi at the current depth they are at. Keeping the water out of the oil and the oil out of the sea with those depth pressures requires a strong/tight connection.

When everything went down, the fitting got ravaged. So what they did was cut the insert and cap it, and then start pumping it out again.

And I am not real sure how that is working for them since the method the resorted to for cutting was less then a good clean cut.

$$$$

Anything to save a buck while reaping record profits every year...

Ive heard through the grape vine that the people working through BP for the clean up arent even allowed to wear protective clothing even though their dealing with crude oil...BP is trying to cover this up as much as possible lol

I 100% agree-that in a perfect world, in their case, they would definitely want to keep that oil "water free". However, right now isn't a time for perfection. It's time for ANY solution at all-period! If they get some water in it then they can clean it later but it still would at least take some of the oil out of our water.
I dont know man, this just all sucks.I guess eventually at this point we need to hope the oil runs out sooner than later since they obviously aren't going to get this fixed.
I wish i had the answers or our All Mighty government would just step in already and take over instead of just standing by watching it ruin us. It's just pathetic.
What I am saying is-just slow it down for now and if they get some watered down oil-oh well. After they get some kind of cap on it-go right next to it and dig a second hole and make sure its done PERFECTLY with extra shut off's and then pump like crazy to take the pressure off the original F'd up hole so they can cap it correctly or double pump it etc. I personally don't give a hoot how much it costs them-that's their problem for cutting corners and saving money to begin with. They will make their money back. Just shut down BP as we know it and open it up as a different company behind closed doors and us Americans wont know the difference and will buy their oil again. Actually it wouldn't even come to that. People still buy Exxon and people are still lining up at BP pumps around here all the time and giving them more money again.

I don't know if I'd want the government to step in. Don't they always seem to make things even worse? Besides, the people they'd send in would probably be working for the oil companies anyways, that's where all the expertise is.
