See, I knew you know those BIG words.
I'v e seen the pix of your 'pond' nothing wrong with them.
Na Na? Is that any way for a college kid to talk...

Ok, here we go...
Mass
can stabilize temperature and oxygen content IF circulated properly. Depth without proper circulation causes temperature / water / chemical stratifcation.
Which explains seasonal productivity changes in temperate waters, very low productivity in the tropics, and higher productivity in polar watersIncreasing depth without increasing width or length decreases the ratio of surface area to water volume, in turn adversely affecting the gass exchange rate. This is of major concern with a pond.
Which is why turnover in a pond is crucial
As you increase depth, you increase water density, & you decrease the amount of usable oxygen in water per cf. because of that pressure increase.
Liquid H2O...cute.
Liquid Dihydrogen monoxide good enough for you?
Was it you or someone else that said it takes at least a year to mature a pond
yea, it was me, I was trying to tell him you can't just do a fishless cycle on a new pond and Volia, you have a new pond that is ready like you can do with a tank(to lazy to look back, sorry)... Then you would be considered a freshman
I'm actually a senior going to school next year for Pre-vet, Wildlife Conservation, or Zoo Science (notice I didn't say first grader!) I do give book learnin' credits.
I can read and I is reading good.I do read a lot of magazines and look on here for stuff and other websites
Years of experience are only unimportant to people that do not have them... Try applying for a Skilled / Professional / Master 'anything' job, without experience they won't even read your appt.
I know I've hired many people with experience over ones with a degree, mainly because they actually know how things work. And I've fired many people fresh out of college & these new technical institutes (they are a bad joke)
you're correct, "plastic" degrees...no practical skills. I would have to train them all over. Not my job. This is how the majority of business' think... oopps going to far off target here. Back to fish.
Well, I want to work at a zoo and I have been at one since 2002, so I guess you could say I have a leg up on people fresh out of college with no experience
As far as the 'guy' you meet, how often was he replacing fish? Or did he have a balanced system...
Or more importantly was 'he' blowing smoke or inhaling it?!
Even stupid people learn or give up.
I don't know DrJoe, I couldn't stand him, he was so arrogant. I am sure a lot of people on here would have been pissed off at him too
Got any recent pix or the ponds your taking care of? (thought I saw an old one awhile back ?)
Nope, sorry, I never thought to take any.
Hey, off the wall question...Do they have a marine science course at your H.S.?
yes, I am taking it right now so I understand about stratification of layers do to a thermal barrier. In a pond, you should be pumping from several layers of the pond and circulating the water correctly
