Ganging up means nothing hell my pleco used to team up with my Manny to take down the Midas lmao! but it's true. It just means that once a fish is being picked by another the other joins in because the fish being picked on is weakened or threatened. They are both male and I am 100000% sure. Plus you should really stop buying fish because what are you going to do with them when they start to get to big and aggression gets completely out of hand. You should really only have 2 FM's and thats it as I have said thousands of times but each to their own. I personally like understocked CA cihlid tanks because it makes them more interactive. Eyebiters get even bigger than JD's what are doing with them? I don't know how to sex Eyebiters so I can't help you there.

What he said

very nice fish you have ..and they look like they are doing well.

The pics are good CB i do like the blury one to but you really really need to get a 1" (or 3/4") thick piece of OSB plywood and stick it underneath your tank to help support it, and you desperatly need to get those JDs and eyebiters gone

How is it that you guys are determining that both are males?

CB those are cool pics, I have similar ones from last summer

Cichlids don't feel a need to gang up on other fish just because they are being picked on. Occasionally my fish have brawls involving 4 or 5 fish and i guarantee you that none of them give a flying crap about backing up the next one because one is picking on all of them. The fact that those firemouths are consistently defending their territory in all the pictures is a definite sign that they are a pair. Those that are saying otherwise are being foolish. Firemouths are difficult to sex unless they are vented. The pairs I bred whn I was younger were vented prior to breeding because they have little sexual dimorphism. I can 100% guarantee that what CB has is a pair.

CB if you are SERIOUS about breeding them...
Putting the convict on the other side of a divider will give the milder FM's a chance to breed. A couple of cool water changes ( while having a heater) and live food or frozen Brine shrimp or Blood worms should do the trick as well.

Yeah I am foolish ok. Sorry his fish are a pair lets all stop voicing are opinions and listen to Wild Caught because he says a couple words and he always right. I am almost certain they are not a pair. I have never seen a female that looks like a male in my life. Hey I could be wrong. Firemouths aren't really all that hard to sex without venting. Yeh I know if the vent look like this oO it's a female and oo is a male but have you vented his fish no. Oh and I wasn't saying they were teaming up to take the convict down I was saying that multiple fish quarrel and just so happens that both FM's don't like the con and they fight at the same time. I know when my Female FM used to pick on my Con my Salvini used to come in and pick on the Con at the same time. SOOOO that means my Salvini which is in the Nandopsis family was a mated pair with my Female FM. Oh I get it. It makes soooo much sense now. So that means my Pleco and my Jag are having babies ok I get it. Your statement is ridiculous.:screwy:
