On the difficulty of correctly identifying your Goonch. (Bagarius)

I think that the genus should be raised by an experienced hobbyist for a few years to get a better idea of what they got and then sell to the public because most people couldn't house a 7 foot goonch fish, an experienced crew should retrieve wild catfish and then provide for the hobby because like the article said its hard to identify except for 1 type, it would be cool to have the variety in the hobby without the fish outgrowing your aquarium because you bought the fish from some over seas dealer.

Cool, thats what i was hoping for.
So now, i was reading through the thread and noticed a few posts on tempurature. It never said exactly what kind of temp. for each species. But if i took it the right way, the LLG and rutlilus are the southeast asian species, so they need warmer water and high oxygen. Correct?

I keep my LLG and rutilus in the same tank and keep it at about 75 degrees Fahrenheit (the higher the temperature the harder it is for the water to hold oxygen) I also have two air pumps putting oxygen in the tank as well as a powerhead to provide circulation and current :)

Well, to start them off since they are small, i would put them in my 55g with two sponge filters. I'll put the temp in that tank at 75-78F. After that, id put them in the 180g where the water is hotter, but i'll get more air pumps with a wall bubbler 6" or bigger. Would that work?

Very very good thread. Lots of information on here. Thank you. But whats the average price for these fish? Does it depend on the type of goonch? Here is a picture of the one im thinking about buying. View attachment 957450

Just thought I would let you know that I know the person selling the goonch. His fish are always healthy, and he typically sells his fish for fair price. I have purchased many fish from him.
