Hello there everyone. I just purchased a new 150g tank from a friend yesterday, and wanted to get some of your guys' thoughts on what I should filter it with. I've always used Eheim 2217's in my 75 and 55 Tanks and have never had any problems... ever. As far as the FX5 goes, I've been doing my research before my new purchase and have found very mixed reviews, mostly from other sites, not too many people seem to have problems with it from here though.

What makes the most sense. Running 2 Eheim 2217's or buying a FX5. I already have 1 extra 2217, due to me selling the 55g, so it'd be alot cheaper to go that route, plus I know and trust eheim. I've never had any problems and they work great, but I'm not sure if 2 2217s is even enough filtration for the 150.

If i go with the FX5, I'd have much less tank clutter. Both in the tank and out. It would also grant me the ability to upgrade my tank size again without having to buy another canister down the road, but I'd have more of an up front cost now.

So please, tell me you thoughts. I'd greatly appreciate some feedback. Thanks. Oh, yeah the new tank will house my 13" Silver Arowana, 20" Fire Eel, 14" Ornate and a 13" Delhezi Bichers.

You might want more filtration either way. That's a big bio load. Why not use the eheim you already have and get an FX-5...

I can only reply on the fx5 and I love it. A few large lfs shops in Dallas use them as well. Both are awesome, but I chose mine on price. Amazon sells the fx5 cheap and I used my prime acct with 2 day shipping. Best of luck

I'm very happy with my fx5 and considering their size/power they are very reasonably priced on amazon. Even though Eheims classic series are arguable the best cannisters ever made they are a bit underpowered unless you go with the 2262.

Thanks guys. So you really think I should run my old 2217 and the FX5? I'm combining some of the inhabitants from my 75 and 55 into the new 150, but didn't realize that the bio load was that high. Maybe I'll put the 2 Bichers in the 75g then..

I find fx5s are great as the offer good mech and bio, 2217 I also love but I never use one alone, I find they let me down on mech side else its for smaller fish who are not messy eaters.

For your tank I would suggest a FX5 and a 2217 also, when those fish grow its going to be a big bio load. you can pick up an fx5 second hand rather cheap also then just stack it with matrix.

I run fluval FX5 and 305 plus my sump on my 220G..... Both units have been running for over a year with no issues....

Howdy,

You're comparing apples and grapes. Compare the FX5 to larger Eheims, and the 2260 or 2262 will be a better choice.

from everything I have read I agree, but are the eheims twice as good as the fx5 to justify twice the price?
