Opinions on EHEIM vs FX5!?

Harleyk, how are those pay checks doing from Eheim? :j/k: ....
IMO it's like a Toyota gas truck and Ford diesel truck being compared (if you're not in the States I apologize for the analogy). One is very reliable, very well built, doesn't have a lot of power and a little over priced. The other is less reliable to some, not as well built, very powerful, much less expensive. Depends what you need and want. I like and own both for different reasons. Reliability and quality vs Power and price.......What drives you????

Not speaking for Harleyk but I like bio-capacity

In the years and hours that I have spent on this and other forums, I cannot even recall a single eheim failure, but I sure can recall FX5 failures. Just words for thought.

when I bought my fx5 I read hundreds of reviews on eheim filters on various forums and several vendor sites. It seemed that eheims classic series are indeed bulletproof and nearly every other filter they make is overpriced and coasting on the reputation of the classic series. I really wanted to try eheim for myself but didn't want to shell out the cash for a 2262/2260 and none of the other ones reviews that were better than fluval.

I can't really comment on the eheim, since the one I have is super old. I got an Fx5 from a friend of mine and I can say i love the thing. I run it on a 150g and find it works fantastic. Super easy to maintain too. If I get another tank 150g+ I think i would buy another!

yup I have a friend who runs a lfs, he says the amount of pro 2-3 thats come in leaking/not working is more then any other filter and his being running this joint for 12 years. he swears over the classics and said all the new eheims should not even be called eheims. according to him rene xps and classics are the best filters life time wise, he still recommends dual classics over a fx5 but says its much better then the new eheims life wise.

I personally like both, I run 2217s for bio and remove all the mech but the blue pad which I place on the bot. Then I run a fx5 with the foam pads and matrix in the center. Only thing that beats this combo is my sumps! the only issue with fx5s is they dont give you media, should really do a deal with seachem to include 5l matrix :D imagine that!!!

Well.. I've decided to just stick with what I know. I'm going with eheim.. Since I already have a free 2217 from my 75g and I found a buyer for my 55g, I figure I'll just run 2 2217's, for now. I also have another 2217 on the way. I figure 3 will work just fine... Any thoughts? Also I posted a pic of the new setup... Not quite done... Need to but some new plants.... Old ones weren't enough.. Also going to add some form of rock formations for the eel and bicher..
