Opinions on "Overcrowding" SA/CA Cichlids

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I plan on thinning the 90 gallon out. The Red Devil and FH will need to be moved. The 120 is set with full grown fish, except the Vieja. I probably will leave it as is.

Well, I emailed Rapps about geting salvini and carpintis but have to check to see if he replied yet. Think I'm staying away from Mixteco Blues for the moment. I don't feel comfortable buying them until I know more about the species. They're pretty new to me.

Also I can get Salvini pretty easily around here so depending on shipping costs (Rapps) I might just buy them with the carpintis locally as both are available at my favorite LFS, and so are FM's. A larger GT is gona be the deciding factor....I want one 3-4" at least so it'll have a head start on the others...they grow so friggin slow!

Plus Bass Pro shopps is right near the LFS too (Good excuse to get some gear for bow season too) :D

I have had great success with stocking to the maximun limits. I make sure I change my water everytime the nitrates get to 20-30 ppm. That is usually once a week. They have their established pecking order, and it seems to work.

My 120 Gallon:

13 inch Oscar
10 inch Red Terror
11 inch Jaguar
8 inch GT
6 inch Chuco Godmani
5 inch Vieja Fenestratus
3 4-5 inch Cons
6 inch Raphael Cat
5 inch Chocolate Pleco

In my 90 Gallon:

14 inch Flowerhorn
10 inch JD
8 inch Chuco Intermeduis
4 inch FH
2 juvy Texas
1 Tex/Con mix
1 4 inch Red Devil (Moving to a Solo 56 gallon when he gets bigger)

Here are the pics

By the way that Jack Dempsey is awesome mate

for the mixteco blues just treat them as a fm, i dont now alot about them as the is no info on them but iam still getting some.....

I have to check email tonight for a reply from Rapps. I guess if shipping is to high I could try to spread it out over 3 or 4 species? Never ordered from him before tho, and it'd be really tough to hook onto a big order like some guys do here because I'm 4-5 hours from NY City area.....BUMMER! :irked:

Well see I guess

you should do what they do here the guy live about 2-3hours away and he organises the orderers and sends them out, post an ad somewere and you should be able to get a couple of people to chip in and spread out the costs. also the more fish you buy the cheaper they are.
i no some people buy like 10 of each of the fish when they only want 1 and then sell the others on to even out the costs......but this can all be done if you have the time.
