Where Palm Trees Grow
I just bought a jaguar cichlid last night and as soon as he was in the tank they have not stopped fighting. My Oscar is 2.5" and my Jag is 3". My jag is beating my Oscar up pretty bad, I just woke up and of course they are having a lip lock battle, I'm scared my Oscar is going to be killed eventually and he is my favorite fish, How long will this last? will they ever stop trying to kill each other? What should I do? The other tankmates are clown pleco and senagal bichir.

If you can't stop the aggression sooner or later the Jag will probably kill the Oscar. Try moving things around in the tank or adding more tall plants or other things that will break up the site lines.

I have kept a Jag with Oscars before. It is kind of a crap shoot though. My particular Jag was on the mellower end. Also they started together in a 150g and moved to a 600g. I credit the size of the tank for a lot of my success with keeping them together.

Good luck.

Well it's pretty difficult to break site lines in a 10g. I put a huge plant that does not even fit in the tank barely and the Oscar just wants to sit in a corner while the Jag sits there and bites him. Should I just go buy a divider? That would greatly limit the fishes room but I may have to do that.

um, well there's the problem....neither of those fish at any size belong in a 10 gallon tank so yeah, they're going to fight and the jag is pretty much going to eventually kill the oscar...and before long after that the jag will suffocate in his own waste in that tank and die as well unless you move him to a much larger tank. however it doesn't appear from your tank setup in your profile that you have a tank to move him too.

if your tank setup information is correct then to be perfectly frank you really need to return pretty much every fish you own and start new and let us help you stock your tanks properly.

See this is why I try not to tell anyone the tank size. Because they go have a spazz attack. Did you read when I said the O is about 2 in and the jag is about 3 in? Because that sounds pretty small.

Size of fish has nothing to do with it, aggression is the key word. I have seen 2in convicts claim 20-30 gallons of water easily. Plus both fish grow incredibly fast. If you don't change tank sizes soon the jag will probably kill th O simply put. Im not trying to be mean or anything just telling it like it is.

yes the fish are pretty small, and yet the jag is still attacking the oscar. the jag, even at that size, needs territory and the oscar is in that territory. the jag will most likely not relent especially as they continue to grow...which these 2 species grow very quickly, though I'm not too sure how quickly they'll grow in a 10 gallon. o.O

So should I try to put my Oscar in my 55g?
