Anyone want to take a guess on what the hell Im seeing?

I've also noticed today that small strands of fecal mater seem to be hanging from both front and back of the giant descended 'thing', trying to push through...

i feel your pain man, is a lovely fish, i hope everything will be allright..

for me it sounds like a internal infection, give antibiotics, raise water temperature.

Woudnt be possible to catch the fish and try to help him out pulling out a bit the white thing that hes trying to pull it out? If you are worried about nematoids you could medicate him with Fenbendazole. Panacur and Safe-Guard are the comercial names of the drug. Fenbendazole and Metronidazol are my main drugs to treat my fish from parasites. If is a tumor, you cant do much about it, i would euthanize if i knew my fish would be suffering from that.

Good luck!

btw dont worry about people flamming you because you gave a feeder to your fish, im sure you did that with all the best intentions.. is easy to judge someone behind of a keyboard when is not their fish in the line of fire.

wasnt the best idea, but anyways, im sure that wont kill your fish.

=[ this is heartbreaking, I couldn't see myself dealing with as well as you are, hope your fish pulls through, he is a pretty oscar, I think someone recommended it already but it couldn't hurt to keep the treatment going till he is okay, will atleast provide some defense, in my opinion i'd keep going with the epsom salt, since finding out about the stuff I have used it in my quarantines, though before coming here I never knew just how beneficial it was to use it, just got the habit from my brother. I have no idea what is wrong with the little fella but I wish you luck in helping him recover, I can't recommend meds as I don't really use them and in all honesty like i said I have no idea =[

Thanks for all the replies of help and kind words here guys.

Sadly... the fish is no longer with me. I finally saved up some money and space to move him to a smaller 20 gallon L hospital tank on Tuesday, but within about an hour of the move, he passed away. Before anyone asks the obvious or suggests that I killed him with the move, I used all the same tank water, gently netted him both out of his large tank and placed carefully into the hospital tank, and tried to keep the stress of the situation as low as possible for him, but it was just too much for him to handle.

Honestly, I've always disliked the idea of moving a fish to a different tank when trying to treat for an illness, as I feel no matter how gently done, it is just a stressful situation for them. This proves it to me really. Im sure someone will tell me I'm wrong and that it is harmless and that I "did it wrong", but to each their own...

Not sure what ultimately took the life of my oscar, besides the obvious issue pictured. After trying to fight it for 2 months it just proved to much. If anyone would like to take their best shot, expert guess, etc at what the cause of death here ultimately was... be my guest....

I can only take some solace in knowing that I learned a lot from this situation. I am setting my 300G tank up in a few weeks and plan on getting a new pair of oscars as part of the tanks stock-list, I hope I can provide better care and longer life for them.

This oscar was 6+ years old (def too young to go) and a full 12"....

I just lost my 8" long-fin Oscar to the same exact thing. When I found this thread I was hopeful it would shed some light on what happened with mine - but it seems to have everyone stumped on this forum as well. I was told it wad most likely a prolapsed rectum or uterus. So sorry for your loss
