That does work... Sometimes.
I just want to add that if you get another cichlid and try this, there is still a good chance your O will kill it too. If not right away.. eventually.
He's already shown his territorial side and each Oscar is different. He may be temporarily thrown off by the altered decor, but once he gets his barings back, he might once again kill the other fish.

But.. you can always try and see. Though i would hate for you to try and fail with an expensive fish.

Try a pair of cons. Remove your oscar for a couple hours as previously mentioned, and let cons feel it out. A pair of cons with some small hiding spots can hold there own. SD are also a good choice in a school.

I would suggest something that hangs out on the bottom, such as a pleco. that O of yours will already take up all the space and territory in midwater a 75G can provide IMO. best pleco would be something like a BN or a gold nugget (if you've go driftwood), any pleco under 10" (no commons, BTW) as long as in has enough space to hold it's own with the O.

you should get a big ass plecostomas because oscars love picking on them but they dont get hurt because of the armor plating on them

With either one of these Plecos you are fully/heavily stocked for a 75gal, with both you are overstocked.
I have direct experience with keeping a 12">(SL) Snowking Pleco with a young adult (5"-8"(SL)) Oscar, it was hard to maintain NO3 below 20-40ppm even with educed feedings and lots of vacuuming.
Plecos such as these have a humongous bio-load, they are major crap factories.

With these fish you have room for nothing.
In order to responsibly think about another tankmate(s) the Plecos have to go...
Or go get a 150>gal tank and aproppriate filtration.
