Oscar Pros I Need Your Help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the wider the variety of food the better.

supplementing the pellets with many different types of foods is best for Oscars. It will even help prevent problems like HITH which has been directly linked to a "boring" diet.

I feed mine Hickari pellets, crickets, earthworms, white fish like cod, peas, market shrimp and even supplement with Vita-Chem ( a liquid vitamin )
They are omnivorous and will take vegetable matter. (just dont feed corn)

Just give him Hikari Cichlid GOld pellets. its easier for the owner and once in a while give him crickets, shrimp, and whatever other people tell you to give him in this thread. HCG pelets is good enough. and i heard beefheart is good. you can mix in nutirents and vitamins if u wanna go through the trouble.

hey whats the reason for that. ive never done it but i was about to for the hell of it.

It aids in digestion.

Peas help everything "move along" ;)

Same reason you need your veggies. But i say no corn because corn is very undigestible and can cause blockages.

But peas, spinach and other greens are good. carrots are good too.

whens the last time you ate corn??? Ever notice the next day or the day after there is some yellow bits in your crap??? thats because the human body can't digest corn. Same goes for fish. Corn really does not have much nutritional value and its a ***** on our stomachs. So basically don't eat it and don't feed it to your fish LOL

more of a variety of natural foods and artificial foods the better, if you ar feeding feeders make sure that you fatten them up with some food before you feed them to your o's

your shopping list is a good start for a little 4-5cm oscar but i think you should buy a box of small crickets aswell. live food like crickets has some beneficial natural nutrients and your oscar baby will love chasing them across the surface.

a cricket crawling up some driftwood protruding from the surface taught my oscar how to jump for food when he was a baby :D

also some baby oscars dont like to eat pellets when young, so opt for softer frozen foods (blood worms) and small live foods (insects only, feeders are not really encouraged). and when your oscar has grown a bit go for the old HGC pellets (hikari gold cichlid) teaching my oscar that pellets are food was a little tricky so i had to wean him onto them (meaning it was all he was offered to eat) then he adjusted and now has a large variety with something different to eat each feeding time. :D

post that pic bro! so we can see the little guy when ya get him!

I will post a pic of him i can't wait till next week:grinno: and you say you buy crikets in a box i hate crikets they are creepy:nilly: lol i hate all insects really but the crickets you buy in the box are dead so how does he chase him do you mean you just capture them???.

Also can't i just soften the pellets ????.
