Oscar Pros I Need Your Help

You do not need to feed crickets. They are just something extra for the oscars and I'd only feed larger oscars crickets.

Corn is undigestible because its covered in a layer of starch which the body cannot break down. It'd be even worse for fish. Its because of this reason that I try not to chew my corn when I eat it as I enjoy looking at a multi-coloured 'production'.
 
well the crickets i buy are live, and if you hate them then feed them to your oscar lol!

eg. i'm not a vegetarian because i like animals, i'm a vegetarian coz i hate plants.

by the way, im not a vegetarian, bleh!

well if you dont want crickets, how about earthworms? easy to make a compost heap and have live food available to your oscar any time! thats what i'm doing at the moment as my spare time project.

atleast opt for "some" live food.

natural is the best way :)
 
actually mines a trash can he will eat anything. Shrimp pellets feeders, but hasnt tried crickets.
 
I forgot to ask i know now that my meduim oscar will like 1-2 meals but what does that meal consist of?? also i know adult will like 1 meal what does that consist of??.
 
pellets such as Hikaris as the staple is what I would do, then bloodworms, shrimp, crickets, and other treats etc etc every so often.

just keep it varied with a good pellet as the staple and you will have a happy healthy oscar. and clean water too! what goes in comes out! lol

what filtration and tank are you going to use?
 
well start off with watching your oscar eat, feed your oscar about as much as it can eat in 2-3 minutes. that may be 1 pellet, it may be 5 pellets. his appetite will change alot as he grows. with my juvenile i fed him 3-4 pellets each feeding time. then changing to 1 block of bloodworms every second feeding time, until he was ready for live foods like crickets. but live earthworms can be used alot earlier.

now he is about 7 - 8 inches long and loves his crickets, beefheart and bloodworms. he takes about 2 blocks of frozen food now or 3 -4 crickets to suffice his hunger at feeding time. (for a little while lol)

just start small and feed your little guy enough that he can eat without leaving uneaten food. you will reach an understanding after watching him eat. you will have a little uneaten food though as it is natural for the oscar to spit bits of food out of its gills because it has teeth in its throat and expells excess food from the gills when crushing/swallowing food.

speaking of corn.

I never understood why so many different fish foods have one of the main ingredients "corn gluten" or "corn gluten meal" or "corn meal"

I try to find pellets that do not include any type of gluten meal. Because all it is, is an indigestible filler that companies include because its cheap and easy to add.
 
Thanks every litle bit of advice helps :D i just want everything to work out and go perfect but what happens if his eyes are bigger then his stomach because even if you overfeed goldfish they still eat so won't the oscar do the same and i will try to get the pic as soon as i can.

Also two blocks of frozen food??.
