So I woke up this morning to a ramming sound that was occurring about every 5 seconds. My oscar is running into my filter pretty hard and has been doing so for about an hour. I assume he is trying to move the filter. Should I be worried about him breaking the intake? He has been pretty wild lately.

Thanks MFK members

Thanks for the question

How big is he and what size tank is he in?

Oscars love to move things and play putting a floating ball as a toy in the tank can help. A plastic plant can also work gives them something to do. I think they worked for United van lines in another life LOL

75 gallon about 10.5" Ive seen him move lots of things around in the sand. Just worried about him breaking something on the filter. He broke a thermometer about 3 weeks ago. Hes been acting really crazy lately.

If he is not sick he might just be bored. Also the ones I have had have done the same thing, if hes like mine it will pass. One thing though he might need a bigger tank. I would not jump to this but I have had better luck when I had a single in a 120 gallon.

Thanks for the opinion kosta
I would love to get a bigger tank but its kinda out of the question for my apartment and out of my budget. The max they allow is a 55 and I have a 75. Lately anything I put in the tank he will go after it and try to bite it except for the last time I put feeders in. he ate a few and quit where in the past he would get all of them at once. Over the past month he has been much more aggressive toward people. I don't want to see him break anything or hurt himself.

Oscars are fun, he should be good in a 75. I learned that oscars like company the happiest mine were was when I had 6 and 4 together. This is not an option for you but perhaps some giant Danios, or silver dollars they have worked for me.

I have a 5.5" jack dempsey in there and they get along fine from what ive seen. They have been together for about 8 months. Could be different at night though. Never seen the jd hurt.

The JD probably wont be oscars are very smart and curious they need some mental stimulation thats all I am suggesting.
