Lol folks always need experience to teach them how ruthless dovii are. My friend has a 8-9” dovii in a divided 55 gallon. It was only divided after a few community Cichlids paid the ultimate sacrifice one by one

I’ve had two different Doviis bring down an entire tank in a night. Just out of no where massacre every fish, about 6 each time. And they were females around 6-7 inches when they flipped. They are the most untrustable fish.
I wouldn't put a dovii in a community tank less than 600g.
This old Oscar sounds too good and too old to risk. I would let him live out his remaining days peacefully. No Way would I risk the Dovii. Sounds to me that there's too much at stake.
well hes in there so we will see. i will keep a close eye and remove him if i see anything. i have a big stack of 6 large cinderblocks that the dovii hasnt left, im going to add some more today just to break the vision up a bit more. at this point im more concerned that if the dovii tries to mess with him the oscar may think hes food and accidentally decapitate him, im sure the dovii is too fast for that but the oscar is def big enough to fit its head in his mouth.
Why not just buy some lighting diffuser at home depot for 10$ or so and divide the tank for the four months? Seems to me like that's the sensible thing to do, no risk for the Oscar. Would hate to see a 15" Oscar get killed for no reason, big old timers like that are so cool.
Your playing with fire with a dovii as soon as it hits 6-7inches if your Oscar isn't aggressive the dovii WILL take advantage and will slowly kill the Oscar the first stage is usually quick attacks (like grammodes) shredding scales and fins testing how weak/strong the target is and that alone would probably be enough for an olddddd oscar
ok, so im super sleep deprived (i have really bad insomnia that i can only stop via exercise, and i tore my hamstring 2 weeks ago so that hasnt been an option) i just realised i never mentioned that this is a pond..... its not an outdoor pond liner pond, its a nice pebble tec pond inside my pool cage with a 2,500 gph pool filter and a heater. i will post some pics. so its a little bit different dynamic, the water has that natural tanin stain to it and with the black pebble tec the oscar actually blends in really well. there is also a resident map turtle.
