I'm notice small marks around my oscar head...I don't want him to get the hole in head disease. What can I do to stop this I do water changes every week..which is like 15 to 10%. Also, my he has been sleeping alot more during the day, I guess the house is more quite when the kids are at school. He sleep at the right side of the tank on his side is this normal?

Any suggestions?

bump up the water changes and what size tank is he in?

i would up the water changes to 50% weekly, check your water parameters to see what they are and let us know the exact numbers you get. and are you sure it is the beginning of HITH and not just his sensory pits? could you get a picture of it?

Same Q's here. How big and how old is the Oscar? Are the pits symmetrical? What are your ammonia, nitrIte and nitrAte levels and pH? Is your tap water soft or hard? What do you feed him?

Sleeping in normal, but typically they do that at night. If your Oscar is lying motionless all day, he is probably stressed. How long have you owned him?

EDIT: I see your tank setup says he's in a 55g. It might be time to upgrade now.

+1 Also I would defiantly change more water than 15% a week. You should be changing at least 20% at a time, and with an O in a 55 I would suggest at least 3 weekly water changes of 30-50% I am betting that your nitrates are very high.

He is not a yr yet...like 4 months...and growning like a little kid on steroids...lol. He is in a 55 for now with a convict & a pleco.

I like how you didn't even try to answer our questions. The ball is in your court. Help your Oscar by answering our questions.

same as everyone else u need to up your water changes oscars are very messy fish, as to the fish lying on his side definitely stressed out could even be constipated how much and what are u feeding him?

Frozen brime shrimp frozen, frozen blood worms..and the pellets. He only lay on his side when it's bed time.

This weekend he started jumping and hitting the hood is this normal?
