Oscar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
mine doesnt although they do jump out the water in the wild to catch food, but generally speaking if your fish is trying to escape there must be something quite bad wrong with your water
what were your full water test readings?

I tested the water and the Nitrate 2 & 3 and the results was 0 ppm... is this good?
The best I can guess is that, by 2 and 3, you are saying your NO2 and NO3 were both 0. Are you saying you have a 0 for nitrIte and a 0 for nitrAte? What about ammonia?

Are the pits symmetrical?

Pay attention. Are the pits symmetrical?

I did not test ammonia but I will when I get home this evening...if it high should I do another water change?

I only test no 2 & 3

No, you should cycle your tank. Ammonia should always be 0.

Sounds like the tank is uncycled as the nitrate level would never be zero in a cycled tank. My guess is that once ammonia is tested for the results will be very high.

Okay, this is what we need a reading of to help.
Ammonia
NitrIte
NitrAte
ph - is it stable?
This is the only way we can help.

Ammonia and nitrite should always be at 0ppm and nitrates preferably below 20ppm.

that is actually a really good question . . . Oscars have "sensory pits" that can be mistaken for early signs of HITH

you really should answer the question

even better, post a picture of your fish . . .

Ok I tested ammonia and the reading was 1.0 ppm...so I rushed and did a 50% water change he seem to be doing just fine rite now.

Should I do another 50% today? Just to make sure all the ammonia is out of the tank.

No, do another one tomorrow. Add some salt 1tsp per 5 gallons of water.

You need to either get rid of some fish or get a larger tank, you are overstocked. A 55 gallon tank is the minimum for one oscar by it's self. Your pleco is just a poop machine which makes it even harder to keep your water in check. Who I really feel sorry for is the con, that poor fish is stuck in a 55 gallon tank with two of the biggest waste producing fish you can get.
