I wouldn't say they're boring, but they are very common. And I think that's why people don't like them.

imo you could never get tired of oscars no matter how many you have had, no matter what kind of setup you want to do, you can always find a place for at least one oscar

I can't say I hate them (I had a breeding pair) but would I setup another tank for them? NO. oscars are so common that it's boring just to look at them in the lfs. everybody has their own taste. me for example would not keep 95% of the cichlids that other members here keep cuz to me their boring.
Mine is boring. He is pretty, but very boring. He just chills in the tank, and only comes up for food, and he isn't as in your face as my snook, or jaguar, or flowerhorn.

Boring?All fish are boring if youre expecting them to fetch or take you to a strip bar.They stay in the tank.Its a matter of personal taste,if you enjoy looking at them then they arent boring.
