I have never tried it withbig cichlids but 3 is typically known as a bad idea. 4 better but a couple could pair up breed and bully. 5 or more from what I understand is a sweet spot where the weakest don’t tend to get singled out. I have 5 female cons in that Oscar tank I posted. When I had three it was consistent with what I stated above. Also if you want other species 5 would be too much without that big sump. It’s sort of the borderline from a bioload persepctive. If you want other species I would try for 2 that get along but beware of a breeding pair. If they are like my jags they will pair up and immediately before breeding will proceed to kill everything else in the tank... 6 feet for sure but with 8 feet you might be ok with a breeding pair. I am super jealous.
