I've handled un-boiled barbs, just to see, and they didn't affect me. My guess was that the toxin needs to get under the skin.

One of my Motoro shed one last night, no idea where it is.

I like your style!

I boil mine after they come out of the tank but even then I am sure they make my skin tingle a little afterwards for a few hours....anyone else found this?

I have experienced this too, both with unboiled and boiled.

The one that replaced this one is much larger I was just excited because it was his first shed :)

I don't get any sensation from handling it but it was sitting in the tank for a while before I found it

I have wondered if this is me just imagining it but it has happened more than once?

I was mistaken. In the gloom this am I thought he'd shed but the white spot at the stinger is just where it's starting to loosen. Should be out in a day or so and I'll have another go if they don't bury it before I see it.

I do not think the venom is on the inside of the stinger, the stinger is cartilage And the groove carries the venom but I THINK the protein around the stinger also contains venom....I may be wrong as this is third hand info.

Whenever I handle the stings I often marvel at touching the serrated edges so maybe that's what causes the tingling?

This is correct Toby, these barbs are not hypodermic.

I hoped you would comment....so what do you think about the "tingling"....possible or psychosomatic? I do not mind either way.

I believe once the barb is detached from the ray the proteins soon break down, this is due to the fact it is no longer attached to the blood supply.
Ive never experienced any tingling and i never boil these barbs,i often run my fingers down these barbs just to demonstrate the reverse serations.
