I am thinking of getting an old fashioned pin cushion used for sewing needles and sticking them in that and keeping it next to the tank :)

No problem, this is the kind of stuff that gets me really interested. Now I really wish I had my ray tank built and going so when I get a shed barb I could run some experiments. Guess I will just have more time to plan...

I was thinking a shadow box would be a nice way to display them.
 
My little male hystrix shed his stinger last night! Luckily my gf noticed it and we sifted through the sand with pvc pipe and found it. The little guy is about 6in and he shed a 1.5in stinger! Second time he's shed, now I have four in my collection. Cool to see the difference in size of the stinger from when he shed one about 9 months ago. His was actually bigger than the female's, who is almost 2in bigger than he is. Has anyone else found this with their male and female rays?
