Our Black Diamond babies

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks very much....

Stingrays were blacklisted in South Africa until.. late 2013/2014....
Once they came off the blacklist we started begging the LFS (more than one) to bring them in but we were made promises after promises that they would arrive and the months went by and they never did.
We eventually received a motoro female and mantila male which i think were the first rays that arrived in the Country.
During 2016 a few other motoros and motoro hybrids came in but some were being lost by the LFS's as no one had any experience on their requirements .
I think this, combined with the in experience of where to source them and the price at which they were landing here all contributed to the delays
Eventually in December 2016 the two Leos arrived shipped as black diamonds.....
In January 2017 the two little black diamonds arrived but when we got there to fetch them they were not in good shape and the little male died the next day, the female we pulled through and she is the one i posted on this thread
Just after that they brought in my (I think) P14.

I must say that they replaced the little male that died on arrival two weeks ago after 3 months of investigation but guess what arrived as a black diamond... a pair of Henlei Pups!!! And those i am sure what they are because they brown..
Anyway... i took the little guys.. will post them one of these days

The same happened with Datnoids .... after almost 4 years we eventually got them two weeks ago as they arrived in the same shipment ...

So.. yes... long story... But it was worth the wait...
Thank you for taking the time to explain it all.Do you intend to purchase those dats as well?

We did.... I bought 3 and my son took 5..
Not sure if they Indos or NTT... again we trying to learn to distinguish them as well!!!
The one looks like it 'could' be an ST but I cant be sure

Congrats on the pick ups. Unless you paid big bank, most likely it will be a nice 3 bar Indo. ST run 4figures to the natives I think. I'd try to breed any pure blood lines you can, as it sounds like you will be one of the earliest suppliers of local CB pups.

Rghfor Rghfor , thanks very much for the ID chart.. Going to have a look and see how acurate umm lets say close to accurate i can get!!

I must say that body shape of the one looks a lot like the first one on the chart but... i am probably wrong..
They dont come very cheap here but believe it or not he was cheaper than the others..
We have these wonderful stories here... he came in with a batch of silver datnoids and they were all marked silver datnoids at the cheaper price of the silver ones but by chance my son caught a glimpse of them and spotted him.

But we will see what you guys think when i pot some pictures

Thanks very much..
My aim is to breed pure bloodlines but accidentaly we have already bred the first CB pups in SA but they are mantilla/motoro hybrids..
It was from the first pair that we managed to get them to bring in and that's all we had and before we knew it she was pregnant and had 2 pups...
We are leaving that pair together as i dont want to add anymore motoros so we will keep the black rays separate and try our best with what we have to keep the bloodlines as pure as possible

Great....post some photos and we'll tell ya what you have.

Thanks.. that will be great
Just need to get them to pose for me!!
They actually not too bad, they are coming out and swimming around but tend to back away when we go too near but i am sure they will come right soon

Its been a while since i updated this thread so here are some pictures of my girl..

I must say.. she is an absolute hooligan!!!!
She is worse than an hyperactive kid and does not stop for very long
Its up and down the glass, smacks her wing on the glass to hard that i actually get a fright with all the noise sometimes
She floats over the bubbles and even Flash gets smacked around sometimes.. thank God Flash is calm and doesnt spook easily

So.. here are some pics
