i havent been to a lfs or bought a fish over $5 in months. i cant even give away fish because many are selling their setups around me.

I hear you man...I've literally given away fish that would have sold for big bucks a few years ago. Browsing the site these last few months, I've seen fish that sold for thousands now struggling to get sold at less than half their original value.

Personally, I've had to make a number of sacrifices to keep my operation up and running. Thankfully my new found fascination with cichla has given me the motivation to make the aforementioned sacrifices with a smile on my face.

In my case, my rekindled interest in the hobby happened to occur in the midst of this storm. I'll chalk it up to coincidental timing if anything. I'm here on MFK posting more than ever :screwy:

I havent noticed any ill effects from the recession personally. I havent really bought any fish in awhile either. I think Im just getting bored with the hobby in general.

I was selling pretty heavily last year.Averaging 3 boxes of fish per week going out.Starting around august it dropped to 2-3 a month.Itll have an effect on how much I spend cause I got used to just using fish sale money for new purchases.
My job dosent pay much to begin with so thats not going to change:grinno:

Business has slowed to a grinding halt. I find myself checking my accounts online more frequently to keep tabs on what I managed to save before all this happened. I have not purchased much lately, but have spent alot of time looking at what everyone else has recently acquired here on MFK. Lot's of guys around me are dumping aquatic equipment and accessories though, which has made participating in this hobby a little easier on the wallet through these time's.

I'm running out of money......
But I'm not sure if it's the recession, or because I cant stop buying more tanks......hmmm

Other than the retirement accounts taking a pounding it has had little personal effect. Have slowed on buying fish mainly due to room.

hasnt put any stress on my family... minimum wage just went up in Ct so im making another 35 cents and hour! lol

have been seeing alot of great deals on tanks and trying to get a bunch while there so cheap

it really hasn't hurt my family as well my in-laws just bought a 75 gl complete set up and we just bought a 65gl show tank complete set up we have slowed on our fish pick ups but thats because we finally almost have the all the fish we want right now and have room for so now just sit back and enjoy :O) really now is the time to buy what you want for low
