Our Tanks.

Super high nitrites in the 150... AGAIN. So it comes down to getting rid of most of the fish in it and keeping maybe a gar and two polys or dropping some change (that i font have right now) on a couple more big canisters. I hate making decisions like this. I love all these fish and couldnt imagine getting rid of them. But its not right to make them sit in terrible just because i like them. This blows. I wish i had a tank big enough available to use as a sump. Thats what i really need.

Do what I did. It's in DIY section here. I removed all bio media from my canisters. Used all mechanical.

I made a spray bar out of 4" pvc. I now have all mechanical done inside the canister and I have literally 4x the bio capacity using the spray bar to house the bio media. Doesn't look terrible either. Looks like a jumbo light fixture.

It cost me 30 bucks. I run 2 canisters. 1 on each side. If one fails the media still sees flow and the bacteria still gets fed.

I saw your thread and its a great idea. I may give it a try. I will probably still keep some bio in my canisters though.

Update on everyone else. Dats are doing great and staying stable. Chasing eachother around over food. Its hilarious lol. Arowana is eating great. Fahaka is staying fat and the peacock bass is eating like no other.

Too bad you don't live closer. I have a 65g drilled acrylic tank taking up vital storage space. It would make a great sump z.z

Try Craigslist. I would either find a cheap tank or just outright search for a used sump. You might find a local community with a buy sell forum. I found my 300 on the atlantareefclub buy/sell forum. You can always pick up a 55g during the dollar a gallon sale at petco, get a hob overflow for pretty cheap, and a new jebao DC pump for less than $100. Altogether that's around 200 with gallons and gallons of media space.

I'm having to do daily 25% water changes on my 180 right now as I set up the 300. Nitrates are always sub-10, but my ammonia will spike if I let up. Pothos eats up the nitrates, but my bio-load is too high for two big hobs and a aquatop (sunsun) canister to handle. Its a pain, but the 300 has a 135g sump with 4 cubic feet of k1 $$$.

I can probably get a used tank from work for dirt cheap and i completely forgot about the hob overflow. One of the stores around here is having a dollar per gallon deal right now with 55s in stock. Im just not sure what size pump i would need. And the sump would have to go beside the tank. Im actually going to look into it today.

So my endli jumped again today. So tomorrow im taking him and one of my gars to work. I gotta get the bioload down until i get better filtration. Its like hes telling me he wants to leave. We never sell polys at work so by the time i have everything together he should still be there. It sucks but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Well its been a couple of days since the last update. I sold both of my gar and the two leporinus and just have my 4 polys and knife in my 150. Everyone seems to be doing better although i hate not ever seeing movement. Rachels tank is finally clean and the water is clear. I bought her 4 sterbae cory cats today so she has somewhat of a cleanup crew.
