If you and your wife work 2 shifts, who's gonna take care and train the dog?

I know it's for protection, but beforehand, you need to consider a large amount of time you spend with the dog. If you don't train your dog right, whatever breed it might be, you might just end up a victim by it.

I have a purebred, championship line show pitbull, not those super stocky ones with hip dysplasia and other hip problems and a mutt from the pound. Both were raised together from puppies at 2 months old and the pitbull is a baby and as a terrier, only chases birds and other small animals. The mutt is the only one who barks at people passing by and she's got a intimidating bark.

Point is, it's not just the breed, it's also who owns the dogs that also shapes the dogs character. Research and get ready like you're having a baby.

Just a quick thought.. I have a 255 lbs. english mastiff. He is only 1 1/2 but he is huge. If you are looking for an easy to train dog that puts fear into people then that's your breed.

He is so massive that you will scare the living day lights out of everyone but they are great with kids and as gentle as can be....but very intimidating. They can even be mean if the owner is in trouble.

**disclaimer: They do get very big so if you don't have the room please don't get the breed.

Ovcharka seems to be the meanest guys around. But you'd need a brave wife to keep one.. but then again, if its so dangerous there you need two guns I'd risk a bite or two knowing no one's in my yard

PEOPLE PEOPLE PEOPLE!!! between me and you we know the best guard dogs are probably poodles i have one of them at home and evreyones scared of him. you seriously cant go wrong with one of those small dogs

I just want a big or mean dog to be outside when my wife come home. Thanks for the info man

I didn't read through the entire thread, but heres my 2 cents. Get a jindo dog. They are proabably more loyal to their owners than any dog and can remember up to 200 human scents. they were used in the korean army for picking out spies out of the lineup and will defend their owners through anything. They're the perfect gaurd/cool/awesome dog ever. heres some pics of mine (which my family rescued).
