I've finally got everything running and some start fish in the tank. It seems that my overflow is putting more water in to the sump then the pump can pump. I'm using 1" pcv piping and Quiet One Pumps 3000. I don't know if I should just add more water to the tank or if I have to change something. I am going to get another plastic drawer to help lift the bio media out of the water. Here are some pictures. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I can see your problem that is just a SIPON, its not an overflow at all , so install an OVERFLOW !!!!! and it will work well for you.

Glad to hear you got the issue somewhat fixed. At least now you have some time to figure out the noise issue.

Although, I think you will always get noise when your stand is not covered. It sounds like Niagara Falls in my basement.

HA it sure does. I'll get the stand covered soon, I just want to get the tank going first. Do you think if I add a little more water in the sump it will help with the noise?

It might help with the splashing if that's where it coming from. Lids help as well.

A lid over the sump? I have a cover for it, i just have to cut it so it'll fit over the drawers. I'd like to put doors on the stand as well as a back. I ordered a bunch of bio balls so that may help a little with the splashing in the drawers. (I have them in the drawer now, but there's a lot more room for more and my local store ran out). I might have to also cut bigger holes in the tops of the drawers it seems that not all the water is flowing through and coming off the tops like a waterfall.

Sounds like you could use a few more holes in the drip plate.

I had to put a cover on my sump. 3,600gph of water splashing was just too loud.

I'll try and put the cover on tonight if I have time. I just have to cut it fit the drawer. The top one comes above the bin a bit. I'll also drill a couple of larger holes. Does it matter how the water flows through the drawers, since the overflow is only going to put out so much? I'll put bigger holes on the edges of the drawers.

Bigger holes on the edges would probably work. Why don't you post up a couple pics of your sump and the inner workings so we can have a better idea of what is going on?
