Overhyped

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For me is really agressive fish that run the tank and end up being only fish sitting in the corner of the tank. Give me my fancy expensive plecos in a large peice of bogwood with redhooks constantly cruizing the tank for movement. Want to see personality my large L-25 scarlet pleco has as much personality as an oscar.

For me, its Hagen Products.
Around 80% of my hagen products (fluval and ac filters and heaters) break.
Yet every other filter and heater I use is fine.
I am sure I will get flamed for that one haha

I think Piranhas are the most overrated fish of all time.

And Africans are awesome. Mine follow me when I walk past the tank and they eat out of my hand. I love my Africans.

Ive kept kept everything under the sun...after enough time you learn to like the different habits of fish, but if I have to pick over rated - Flowerhorns.

Need to put on my flame retardant suit...

African Cichlids :(

They are colorful but they have nothing in the way of personality compared to SA or CA cichlids.

Much agreed on this, and as others have said. They are the poorman's salt talk. Peacocks are the worst as you end up with only one colorful male out of the bunch while the rest are a dull grey. Fronts/Gibs excluded ofcourse, they are definently the only worth while african to keep.

Breeding to make EBJD, and just Flowerhorns in general

Both annoy me in breeding. EBJD because they are a fish that you most likely won't get right. FH's in the fact people breed them back to Blood Parrots. Not to mention some get just asinine and start breeding lowly hybrids and giving them names so they can sell them for alot. Knew a kid on FHUSA that did that with tons of his lowgrade hybrids. Called a crappy purpleish FH a Plume Moon and a very colorful Middeivil a "Jin-Kang". Tried selling the Plume for $250, but I would say it was worth 5 just on personality and size. It was ugly. I give the high quality breeders props, but these kids that breed low quality just to make a buck are the real problems I have with FH's.

AIMARA WOLFISH, I'm sorry, a couple grand for a turd with teeth on the bottom of your tank....just my two cents

Agreed on that

For me personally it's beani. I don't think they're that attractive in general. After hearing all the hype I was expecting to be blown away, but they didn't look like anything special.

I have only seen 3 I would call extrodinary, the rest have been plain jane. I thin Oscars are more intresting personally

little nano tanks no like 10 gals but little 2-3 gallons they were just to tiny for me and everytime i would put my hand in the tank would overflow and make a mess on the desk :/

Yep, I find potted plants are easier to maintain.

pbass.....

Thats a definent one. I think these should remain as sport fish unless you have the tank to house them. Too many keep them in 125g's.

I personally think it is not a fish that gets over hyped, but rather the "rare location and collection point" It makes the fact it is the same damn fish overlooked...

Agreed, but that also goes with re-labling. I have seen barred Midas labled "San-Juan Black" just to by the looks get attention. Hate when people relable fish from slightly different areas when there is no distinction in color or charcteristics.

I somewhat agree. I like and have clown loaches, but I do not understand the price of big ones. I have 3 that are 3-4" that I bought them a year ago for $4 each. At +7" they get ridiculously expensive.

Same here, I know it takes alittle time to get them there but come on!! I adopt them in my area and am willing to pay abit of money to compinsate the person, but won't pay more then $5 no matter what the size. I love growing out my fish so I don't care if they are small and would rather buy them as such. I just love Clown Loaches and would rather give ones needing a new home a home then buy them from a LFS for too much.

Agreed. Just a large tetra with teeth that is skidish unless in a large(and I mean LARGE) group.

colored gravel, fake plants, man made castles, fake drift wood, did i mention colored gravel?

LMAO, exactly what i was thinking...black and green gravel---black and white plastic plants---Ceramic castle with colored ceramic coral on it.....haha totally agreed

Now for my personal take on "overhyped"

Black Arrowanas, they look pretty much the same as the regulars. If you want "RARE" go Red.

Koi - I absoloutly hate these calico carps. Overpriced and absolute pigs. Never mix with orandas as they will eat their hoods. Seen this too many times at Petsmart and other places.

Needlefish - Unless their Rossies or something equivalent these guys are nothing special. Poorman's baracuda

for me its Haits(growing some out right now and i dont get it)the color is dull and when they get bigger the males hump look kinda odd.

Trying telling that to my TIger Oscar that may be true in general but not in my case the only thing I've been able to house him with is clowns and tinfoils if there big enough I put smaller tinfoils in once and he ate 2 of the three the third was hiding in a cave. Tried silver dollars and many other things doesn't work out to well. He's more of a bully though then just down right agressive. If the fish fights back he usually gets his but kicked. Needless to say he now lives in a 75 alone.

As far as the question for the thread id say Oscars once mine is gone won't be getting another there just to boring IMO

I see what you're saying, all Oscars are different from each other.Mine doesn't bother the other smaller cichlids, but will chase them out of his territory only. The only fight I have seen him get into was my 7 inch Jaguar that loss the fight to the Oscar.I tried to get another Jaguar recently, but it seemed like my Tiger O didn't allow it one single bit. This Tiger O will be my last as well.
