As with every hobby there are ways to do it cheaply. Make lots of friends that hook you up, bargain shop, wait for the right deal, etc. But for the people who go full force in any hobby it starts getting expensive. As with any other hobby.

I don't care how much you spend on this hobby. Do it as cheap as possible. But don't gripe just because you can't afford going rate for a fish and chalk it up to them being overpriced.

No one's telling anyone to get out of the hobby. We're saying you're being unreasonable with your expectations. Any hobby and yes I mean any hobby is or can be expensive depending on what you choose to do in that hobby. Just as with cars you can choose to have an integra or a viper.

the integra and viper evaluation is intriguing considering anyone who buys a 10k integra and invests an additional 55k into it will come out much much faster than the viper. but i digress...

obviously there are many here who would spend 200$ on a fish and not bat a lash, I would assume 1 of a few things about them 1. no wife, or, 2. no other hobbies whatsoever, or 3, make enough money that they can support multiple expensive hobbies, or 4, have a trust fund and no idea what a hard days work is.

but as with most things there are those who can work a 100$ budget into a 250g tank setup filled with African cichlids and there are those who'd spend that 100$ on a single African cichlid no tank, no setup just the fish.

to each his own i guess. if you want to buy a car for 30,000$ that's sold around the corner for 10,000$ be my guest. but don't live in the dillusion that everything at it's current price is fair.

hmm it does seem that many are focusing on the wrong word here. this is a thread about overpriced, not expensive fish.

Even moderators are entitled to their opinions. We're members just like others here. And the whole point of discussions like this is to share views from everyone else. No one can think the same way as you do. This is fact of life in internet. Opinions vary based on how the questions are understood. As this is a global community, this has to be expected. Just my two cents on this matter.

understood lupin but i don't think the STFU and move on comments are necesary, and prly aren't taken as easily when thrown out by by regular members. i love opinions objecting mine, i mean how else do we learn but there are ways to present them at least half respectfully. just my two cents on the topic.

The large and small dats cost way too much for a fish that takes forever to grow and also some dats (indo) die from no reason at all.

I usually agree with the mods but the "STFU and move on" comment wasn't necessary. I mean if one of us that are not mods said this to a fellow member, the member might be warned by a mod as well start something between the members that will be way off the topic posted. The Doctor.

I just saw a Centipede Knife fish, which is common, and normally priced around $12.00, for $60.00. Crazy prices. When asked why the price was so high, I got the reply that it was a full grown knife of 8 inches... and?
I guess I didn't see the point of the high price for such a common fish.
