Lethal, dermonecrotic and myotoxic activities were detected .. in P. falkneri tissue extract. Edematogenic activity was similar and dose dependent in ... tissue extracts. Nociceptive activity was verified in ... tissue extracts, but P. falkneri presented a two-fold higher activity than D. guttata tissue extract. No direct hemolysis, phospholipase A2 and coagulant activities were observed in both tissue extracts. Antigenic cross-reactivity was noticed by ELISA and Western blotting, using antisera raised in rabbits. Species-specific sera reacted with several components of both tissue extracts, noticeably above 22kDa. Both tissue extracts presented gelatinolytic, caseinolytic and fibrinogenolytic activities, which were not caused by the action of metalloproteinases. Hyaluronidase activity was detected only in P. falkneri tissue extract. Our experimental observations suggest that P. falkneri tissue extract is more toxic than D. guttata tissue extract.

(Locally)
lethal ( don;t need to translate that one)
skin rotting
toxic to muscles
skin and beneath skin blistering
pain producing
antigen producing
puss producing
blood thinning
skin permeability increasing.
blood pressure increasing....

I think I got most of them......phew!,,,,that's a lot of google!

   WAY worse than even some of the nastiest snakes. Thanks for the info. There is not a snowballs chance in hell that if someone was stung, that they would just shrug it off.

im not one to go running to the doctor at the first sign of blood but i have to agree with the general consensus here. animal bites/stings are not something to take lightly. especially if they are known to be poisonous. In this case i would prefer a docs bill to a numb hand.

On another note. Does it really cost you upwards of a grand to have a doc look at a cut? A trip to my local gp for small procedures has never cost me that much.

I'm leaning in that direction too!

IF you got stung, get ready for complications......... ESPECIALLY if you don't see a Doctor. I know people who still have trouble years later. At the least, you'll feel it for months.

Nope...May cost 400 bucks at the most, maybe a bit more for the radio graph.

EDIT: This post was in response to the query as to the medical costs in the U.S.

lmao!! i love how you're like "oh yea i got the venom out but is he gonna be OK"
lol dont even ask if YOU'RE gonna be ok :D
