Very sad indeed. I had to recently seperate mine as well for the same reason. It's a thin line we walk when males and females exist together in te same tank.

I agree I've had a large ratio of females to males but they do attach to one and not give up, causing continued stress to that one poor lass

It's male bd I have always had problems with them in the past and had to sell a few on

When I had my bigger male p14 he would put any smaller Leo in its place when they got ruff with his girls now I have a Leo as top boy things are different it's like a gang rape he lets the other male hold her down when he gives it his best

I always wanted to keep a male p14 and male Leo in the same tank which was poss with my other male these 2 males are fine and both are mature
I sort of wish they didn't get along as then one would have been gone by now

We will have to see what happens but if things go wrong I will probably sell the male Leo as p14 are more gentle

Seems to me Rays are a whole different Animal compared to fish but you guys really seem to have a strong passion for them which makes me want to attemp

Do you think it maybe because you have 2 males instead of 1 in the same tank?
I have noticed that my 1 BD male beat up the female very badly on the first breeding to the point she looks a different ray now even though she has healed. She is pregnant again now but this time seems different as the male seems to have learnt to leave her alone more, except for around her eyes which is whre he seems to do the most damage (also notice the pups going for each other around the eyes as well, but no marks left) I am pretty sure the hybrid is pregnant as well from the same BD and she hardly has a mark on her. Maybe luck or i maybe wrong, but my BD appears to have learnt to be a little more gentle. Not much though! These BD seem to be VERY passionate lovers!

Blimey Jim that must be unpleasant to watch the girl getting her 'face' and eyes bitten a lot, interesting the pups are doing it also, perhaps more food or even more frequent feeding would reduce the pup on pup attacks?

I don't tink it is so much a case of pup on pup attacks as playing maybe? They get fed 3 to 4 times a day so it's not about food. It's the first pups i have had so i have no prior experience. To me it looks like excitement from the pups as they have quickly learned to recognise me approaching the tank. What i can say is that black rays are extremely aggresive as T1 has mentioned.

Yes mate black rays are defo more aggro than the other species.

Reckon the pups are pouncing on each other messing about and especially when feeding as they get excited.

How far along do you think your female's 2nd pregnancy is? Seems you've started a BD factory :)
