sorry to hear T1 .
with regard to the several females issue. i dont think it necessarily works.
if you have five females in one tank and only one is "in season" at that time then that would explain why one female is getting all the attention / agression.

better luck with the others.

To be fair as with the other video I showed a few months back the two females used to fight a lot to the extent that you would think they was breeding

The remaining female is much more active now the big girls gone
But the males are showing interest in her now but as she has bred before she may give them a helping hand to get into the right position

I will keep a very close eye on things this time

The female that died was never a great feeder and I always wondered how she kept going with the amount of food she took so maybe she was weak before the beating as she hadn't been feeding great for over 18 months

Do you think it maybe because you have 2 males instead of 1 in the same tank?
I have noticed that my 1 BD male beat up the female very badly on the first breeding to the point she looks a different ray now even though she has healed. She is pregnant again now but this time seems different as the male seems to have learnt to leave her alone more, except for around her eyes which is whre he seems to do the most damage (also notice the pups going for each other around the eyes as well, but no marks left) I am pretty sure the hybrid is pregnant as well from the same BD and she hardly has a mark on her. Maybe luck or i maybe wrong, but my BD appears to have learnt to be a little more gentle. Not much though! These BD seem to be VERY passionate lovers!

Not meaning to back track here, but I've just been out to my garage to start a wc and found a mm pup hanging onto the eye of one of my Hystrix females for dear life, the f@#cker keeps doing it as well :( made quite a bit of damage

This is terrible news. Part of the reason when I built my 15' tank I divided it permanently so I could move rays from side to side within the same system. When my jags start breeding it can get pretty violent and even with jags being so tuff I have to occasionally separate them.

Could be the tank space Mike. Get that summer house aquarium up and running before summer mate.

Ive always found they can go gentle for a while Jim,lure you into thinking they have chilled out, then next time around will be super aggressive again,i wouldn't say black rays are any more aggressive than brown rays, they can both be as bad as each other.

Thanks for the heads up mate. I will keep a close eye on them (no pun intended) !!
