Is there a way to paint this background ?

Im sick of it and miss having a nice solid black background.

There has to be a way to change the color besides ripping it out. Krylon is fish friendly but i really dont want spray paint going anywhere near this thing.

I've used drylok with color added for vivariums. I'm not sure about fully submerged though.

I personally think the bg and your sand makes your tank unique in a good way

Appreciate the compliment man. But if theres a way to do it... its gone. Ive been thinking about this for a while I hate the way the fish look with it but never planned to actually do ot until Last night when the wife was backing up the family pics to a hard drive and found a bunch of pics from before this tank and the fish look soo much better.

Anyway you look at it its going to be a big deal. I like the look of your tank! I really like the background and the color of it too. If you want it plain black id say get some black pond shield but your tank is going to be down for a week or so. Krylon probably wont stick in the long run. Or maybe some of that flex seal brush on is supposed to be fish safe once dry. I just painted the in side of the canopy I built with it, PIA to use.

Just looked it up. Sounds like the pond armor will work. Just need to read up on it. One review said the stuff dries really fast. Maybe post something in the diy section thx twenty

From the picture of your tank, it looks to be straight across the back, with the exception of where the two overflow are - that sound right? Here's a thought, you could find black 1/8" or 1/4" polycarbonate OR marine board and create an overlay over your existing background. I would have to see the specific plumbing configuration, but you could be easily to keep in place without glue/silicone.

It wouldn't be the cheapest solution, but I think it would result in a clean look that would last until you wanted to remove it. All safe for fish guaranteed and no flaking like painting. Does this sound crazy?

It does sound crazy.... sometimes crazy is good.

So how could i hold it in place ? What up with the plumbing ?

I had that thought too...ish I thought black acrylic. I'm not sure how you'd hold it on there though, magnets maybe, clamps.
The pond armor is brushable. You need to give it 48hrs for a full cure I think.

Since you would use something thin, I am thinking plastic clip to clamp down to the background at the top edges. Does pvc run through into the background? You could drill hole and extend the PVC as needed and run through the cover. I think it's doable and reversable if you wanted. Magnets could work but too as mentioned but two things to think through 1) the background isn't flat so you'd have to ensure two magnets can touch. 2) You would have to glue magnets to background...but you dididn't like it anyway.

I think it could look very clean...just cannot suggest specifically around plumbing without seeing it as i dont remember how yours run over / through the tank?
