Painting a cat So, a few months ago I found a dead cat in my backyard

Very cool. If you don't want to use ammonia, you can just set the skull in water and let bacteria macerate it. Just as nasty-smelling, of course. A quicker way is to boil the skull in a weak solution of sodium carbonate, AKA sal soda, washing soda, or soda ash. Just don't use an aluminum pot- apparently it has a wierd reaction with aluminum.

The ammonia is used to de-grease it. It was pretty much stripped dry when I found it. I am going to use the bacteria method for the next project. One of my professors found a mouse that's in great condition and almost fully barren. As soon as she's done using it for a still life, I get it. I think you can see where this is going.
