Traveling though Bali there were many homeless and poor people there. Was there any government program to help them? NO, hence all the people in poverty were forced with find a way to make money and eat OR starve. Believe me people figured out how to honestly make money and eat....

Really there isn't a goverment "homeless" program here is there? (honest question) We have a welfare system but honestly unless you're a single mother with kids you don't qualify. A large percentage of the homeless population are Vet's. And rather than a 3rd world country we live in a society that judges largely based on looks/who you know rather than what you can do.

I agree a smart and creative otherwise mentally healthy person can probably devise a way to get off the streets. And some are truely people who just want to be free to have no bills and have no one to answer to. But I know that some of them have just fallen on bad luck or haven't had any support to help them back up. Those are the ones I feel sorry for.

This is all looking from the outside though as I know we don't have near the homeless problem that warmer climates do.

As far as the original question if I have a dollar and they look legit I give it.

dont bother with them at all.... i have thrown change into a few cups but i usually ignore them

Agreed, there are always exceptions to the rule. Thou I dont even think you have to be smart to get a job. There are plenty of jobs that don't require a brain to get.

I saw a comedian this past weekend in Tahoe and he said that back east they have a homeless program thats 100% effective, he called it WINTER!

LOL

If Bali did have a government program Im not really sure if it would help people or not. I think that it might be a crutch if anything. Knowing that you have nothing to fall back on but yourself is motivation enough. Government help usually enables and lets people coast along IMO.

winter...LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but yeah, there are plenty of mindless jobs that anybody with a pulse can do. lots of day jobs, hard labor stuff, its out there. at the end of the day it comes down to being LAZY

My brother is a supervisor for a construction company, and he would try to offer them a job for that day and or longer if they wanted. They could of made a couple hundred fast, but all of them refused. There used to be one at every corner all day everyday. It's cleaned up a bit over the year thankfully.

Wow really? That's nice that there are people like that like your brother. Because alot of jobs won't even give you a shot without phsyical address, telephone number, etc.

Why would any legitimate construction company offer a person that may be under the influence of alcohol or drugs onto a construction site. You ever hear of OSHA inspectors? There is no way any insurance coverage would be binding if your brother is picking up derelicts to work.

If that is true your brother was making some poor choices.
