I always look at their shoes. If their shoes are nasty and falling apart, I give them food/water/money. If they are new, I ignore them.

Also panhandlers who make the most money make themselves look really bad!

When I was in middle school or of the local Radio Guys dressed up and went out to the shopping areas and panhandled. He was secertly on the air and he made over a thousand dollars in a weekend. Then the city cracked down... Lately it has gotten bad again and they started to ask people to see IDs. Now they are being sued... CRAP

Really it depends at the time what I do. I have went through McDs and got a value meal and givin it to a couple times, I have given money a couple, I have done nothing a few times, I gave an old guy a ride one time. Really, there isn't to many around here.

Well, I wouldn't normally do that....but he was old (I could of took em), and he was needing money trying to get to his son (at least that is what he said), I may be a sucker...but I believed him, I took him to the bus stop that was about an hour away, and got him a bus ticket.

you'll never know. But you were a good samaratin and kudos to you.
I would too if it was some cute old man.
You know those cute little geezers all hunched over that shuffle about 1/2 mile per hour.

anybody get hit up at gas stations from normal folk wanting gas money to get to xxx city? they always use the same old line. get real annoying after you see it everywhere. i dont even wanna buy gas for my car, let alone buy gas for some loser complete stranger

True, or the ones that need to take X bus to X city. I always ask how did you get here in the first place.

It's sad how you can't trust people these days because for every truly down-on-their-luck person, there are 10 'normal' people waiting to take advantage of you.

My favorite panhandler was on Pike street in Seatle right before the Market on Pike

His sign said will work for beer and Weed we had to give him 5.00 just for the honesty

I think there was more to the sign.. I don;t remember but it was great! I was easily compelled to give this sign holder some cahs as you just don;t see that here
