Haha, Happened to my brother. A guy walked up to him and asked for $20 so he can buy some steel toed boots for his new job he is starting... well my brother being the Christian man he is, gave him a 20... well next time my brother went the guy went up to him again and said the same thing... He was like what happened to that other 20? Guy said what are you talking about?! And my brother was like I JUST gave you a 20 the other day.... what happened to it, and the guy got really defensive and like went off... How dumb.:screwy:

Wow really? That's nice that there are people like that like your brother. Because alot of jobs won't even give you a shot without phsyical address, telephone number, etc.

Yeah I know right. They would be simple easy jobs too... I don't get them sometimes. Sit out in heat or cold to be lucky to get anything, or work a day and your set .

Why would any legitimate construction company offer a person that may be under the influence of alcohol or drugs onto a construction site. You ever hear of OSHA inspectors? There is no way any insurance coverage would be binding if your brother is picking up derelicts to work.

If that is true your brother was making some poor choices.

I never meant he was picking up alcoholics... he didn't offer just any one sitting on the side to work there...
It was more like peace work

Changing the story a little bit? In your first post you never said your brother "qualified" them in any way?

You brother may have just like to pay people under the table, no taxes for him.

That would be illegal, as far as the government would be concerned.

Not changing it at all. Didn't know I had to be specifically detailed for you. I was just saying how they get offered a job, and refused it. I don't know what all my brother did except that he tried to help them out.

Being in a warmer climate, I see a lot of them everyday. I'm sure some of them are down on their luck and just need a break. But I've also run two day labor places and there is work available if you want. Most of them want just enough for the days rent and the bottle or the rock. Some have hit hard times and are doing whatever necessary to survive. Some are quite talented and could easily get a full time job making good money. When asked why they didn't accept they said they wanted freedom. If you wake up in the morning and don't feel like working, you don't. You adapt your lifestyle to a diminished wage and don't feel the pressure to compete daily. Most of the panhandlers are lazy, alcoholic, drug addicts or a combination of some or all. I wouldn't give money to a single one. Did once. Guy came in, combat vet, needed money to get to the VA center for treatment. Asked to do some menial work for bus fare. Couldn't do anything for him because of company policy but as a vet felt bad for his situation and gave him some money. Next week he's at one of our other branches, hitting up another manager with the exact same story. Never again. Sorry for the long rant but touchy subject.

Why is it at the mention of what seems to be a nice gesture, you feel the need to attack? I find it interesting too that your giving advice on whats illegal, and what the gov. is concerned with, while having an avatar that shows a suitcase full of money. That suitcase doesn't exactly look like deposit slip....

if they have time to sit out and ask for money they have time to look for a job. i work hard for my money and i'm not about to hand it away. However i have bought coffee and donuts for some homeless in the past and i also handed out a bunch of clothes suits to some panhandlers. as far as cash i will not hand out cash.

Funny ACLU is sueing the state of Indiana for harrashing panhandlers. When I was in high school going to prom I had a guy stop us asking for money and he got really pushy. I see people on the side of the road often. Vets have many programs to help those who are homeless. In fact they just opened about apartment complex free for homeless vets to live. However the people who are panhandling are normally not homeless. They are scammers, making a quick buck. The homeless population is thanks to Jimmy Carter and closing all the mental hospitals. He put them in the mainstream or truly sent out into the world with nothing. Many homeless are mentally ill in some form. If we reopen the mental hospitals it would create more jobs and help those who really need it.

Many blame Reagon for the homeless problem, but in fact it was started by Carter and when the Democrats still controlled the Congress and had number to easily over ride his veto. So we can thank the ever caring Dems for the countless homeless on the streets.
