Parents.....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My brothers are all big video game freaks and hound my parents for money for the newest games and systems, I on the other hand ask for nothing and don't live at home so my parents love my fish addiction, My dad actual got jealous because he came to my house over the summer from Ontario and saw all my fish and tanks but his wife won't let him get anything bigger then the 30gal he has in the spare room.

Explain to them...Plantlife, fishlife, water management, etc professionals make a pretty good living.

So you want him to lie to his parents?

My mother was indifferent to my hobby but she still would not let me get into as much as I would like. I never had a tank larger then 40g (for my turtle) when I lived at home and I typically had to pay for everything myself. I never had more then two aquariums with fish but I did have other pets as well. Her concern was partly based around "what happens when you go off to college" and she was right, when I did she had to take care of my animals. The urge to have more and larger aquariums was a driving force behind moving out and I did at age 19. I see a lot of you who still live with your parents and have multiple aquariums or aquariums over 100g and you guys really are lucky. I believe parents should support their childrens interests but I also believe that children should be more grateful for what they have. I frequently see just the opposite and its sad. If however you live on your own and pay for your own hobby like in PMK's case then I think parents should be happy with the hobby their kid has chosen. With so many dangerious hobbies out there parents should thank their lucky stars that their children are involved in a very educational, safe and healthy hobby such as fishkeeping.

wow my parents think its a waste of money. i just ignore them. lol
its the love we have on our fish. thats why we all consider ourself as MKFers. lol

Well what I usually do when I ask my dad to take me to the fish store and he says no you go theres like twice a week, I just tell him ok I'll just go and smoke some weed today like all the other high school kids, lmao it always works.

It does work EVERY time. Except my dad doesn't give me sh*t about going to the LFS.

My dad actually got me into this hobby. We don't have any fish at the moment, but he's going to help me set up a little tank in my dorm. He wants to start a huge project that involves a large in-wall tank and some big fish. We're thinking an arowana, some kind of knifefish, and some other bizarre fish.

My dad is pretty supportive, and my mom is kind of indifferent. I don't think it matters to them as long as it's not their money!:D

Well my parents seem to be okay with it. They are glad that it keeps me away for other things. My dads seems to support it to a degree it that he will buy me fish food sometimes when I'm running low on money. The other hand my mom says that its nice to look at but besides that she could care less. One good thing about my mom is that she keeps saying that I can convert my other 55 into a sw and she will pay for the setup. But I think that I will stay will fs for awhile. My brother likes it and also hates it he likes it because when ever we get feeders he like to see the oscar and bichir go crazy. He hates it in that he is pressured to take me to the lfs.
