Parents.....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It really sucks when the people paying the morgage on the house demand a say about what goes INTO it... Unless of course the shoe is on the OTHER foot. In that case you view life just a bit differantly.

Parents should be understanding and supporting of the childs hobby, even if it means having something in the house they don't really like. Give and take is needed on both sides but usually I find parents (not my own) just want to take with the same mentality as you have. My house, my rules, remember who picks what happens when you grow old, do you wanna move into their house when your older, would you like one little tank? I know as my parent grow old and become unable to live on their own I would be proud to have them live with me and not go into a nursing home. What ever hobby they have I will support and help with along the way. I do that now by spending hour on the internet helping them find what they want even though it doesn't interest me at all. I even pull over when my Mum spys an antique shop and spend hours looking around even though it bores me to tears.
They support my hobby so I support theirs, give and take.

My dad thinks it is a huge waste of money even though he had a MFK tank once. And my mom loves it. Except for the part where the feeder fish are goldfish. She keeps goldfish.

I AGREE with you!

My Dad loves it :) Every time he comes to my house I have to search him and disarm him :D he's a die hard fisherman :D and wants to see how much of a fight these super game fish i keep talking up really fight :D

My mother isnt into fish-keeping, but always listens to what I have to say about it. She even drives me to 5 pet shops to look around when she could be doing much better things with her time.

Ive came to the conclusion that my parents will ***** about anything I like or want to do. They dont like my stretched lobes...they dont like my tattoos....they dont like my college major and they sure as **** dont like my fish. I did set them up a 75G in the living room as more of a show piece kind of deal, its pretty and they can show it off to their friends but they dont care much for it deep down.

my dad didn't like my fish until the oscars started eating from his hand and came up to greet him everytime he entered the room. My mom fell in love with my dojo loaches (because of their whiskers) and my bichirs

My parents were always pretty supportive of me keeping fish. I did have to keep all my tanks in my room, though. I never had anything larger than a 20g, though. The one rule was nothing w/ big teeth. My sister is six years younger and they didn't want her or any of her friends getting bitten.

My wife is indifferent to it. She likes cute community fish, but is being receptive to a tank of oscars or dwarf cichlids. She was not receptive to a 55g in the kitchen/dining area. I think I'm going to shoot for a 125g in the game room and a 1000g in the basement when it gets finished.

My son and I are in this hobby together, in fact he was the one that told me about MFK...not everyone agrees on everything and that's no reason to put one persons viewpoint down, just because you don't agree. There's always common ground if everyone just listens, really listens to what is being said.....

Bill88, I believe you said your 19, if things are so wrong at home why don't you leave , start your own life.
he said he dont stay whit his parents
