CONGRATS again, LOVE to new pics, she is absolutely gorgeous, and yeah just make sure to keep a close eye of the re-growth of her feathers, as one day she may only be able to fly a couple feet and the next she may have enough to catch a decent wind, though with the heavier birds it is easier to check on their growth, also i would suggest when her feathers do grow back, before you re-clip them to practice somewhere inside with her how to fly down, because its instinctive for birds to fly up but its actually a learned behavior for them to fly down, so what happens when some birds get loose is they fly up and up until they get tired and fall because they never had to fly downwards before (if you have stairs in your house that would be perfect place have her fav person stand at bottom of stair and someone at top of stairs fly her off their arm) my friends grey got loose and they finally found her in a tree but she didnt know how to fly down and was scared so they had to find huge ladder to get her... GOOD LUCK THOUGH, i LOVE the pic of her by the tree :)

and in regards to the post you just posted, i dont think theyshould be eating that much, twice their body weight EVERYDAY sounds really excessive also you should be feeding pellet not seed, especially if its sunflower seeds, some other kinds of seeds/nuts mixed into the pellets is good but sunflower seeds should only be used for treats as they are high in fat and low in everything else, but sounds like you are progressing really well with her, she already trusts you enough to go on her back so thats GREAT

Nice birdy! Very pretty eyes! :) Thanks for sharing.

thanks for the comments everyone!

as far as the seeds go, sunflower seeds are only used when we are training her and the rest is peppers, millet, and nuts. and like i said, that is only half her diet...

thank you for the compliments!

I assure you that no gust of wind would have been strong enough that day to get her off the ground but I think I am going to try to let her flight feathers grow back so that I can train her for some free flight but that will be way down the road since there is much she has to learn before that.

I did get her to do two "tricks" (for lack of a better word) this weekend. she will now spread her wings out and hold them there which is nice for show and will be helpful during examinations or if I do clip her wings again and she will now lay upside-down in my hands too

Logo, how much do you feed yours? I have read that they are supposed to eat something like twice their body weight but she might eat one full bowl despite it being constantly offered to her. I am feeding her about 1/2 commercial bird seeds, and 1/2 fruits and vegies and she seems to like everything i give her but she does not eat as much as she is supposed to. Should I be worried?

I just prefer to be overly cautious I don't know what I would do if something ever happened to Lucy. And that is really great she is starting to trust you so much it is something very important thing to earn. I feed kind of freely she always has access to her pellets which I swirch up the kind every few days. She gets a limited amount of seeds/nuts but a few nuts a day are crucial for their well being preferably a lower fat content nut and NEVER peanuts. She also gets cooked food, bird bread and fresh foods as well. I would recommend getting a scale to keep track of her weight and since she is a hybrid their weight does vary quite a bit. And 2 times their weight is an amount for a free flighted bird that actually burns alot of calories. I hope this helped some if not I can clarify it more.
